I have visited Chittagong Railway Station, which is the government railway station of the Chittagong division. Currently, it is the second-largest and busiest railway station in Bangladesh. Direct rail communication has been established from here to Dhaka, Sylhet, Chandpur, and Cox's Bazar.

It is a very old station, starting its journey in 1896. Built during the British colonial era, history suggests that this station was established to transport tea and other goods to the Chittagong port, which is why it is considered so historic.

It stands as a testament to the colonial era. Originally built in the Battali area of Chittagong's Sadarghat, another new terminal was later constructed nearby due to increasing demand, which is now known as the main Chittagong Railway Station.

What facilities and services are available there? How is the management, cleanliness and ticket system?

Chittagong Railway Station is open 24 hours a day, every day of the week. Passengers can arrive and stay here at any time and purchase tickets as needed. Although it is located in the New Market area, it is such a significant place that no other area name is needed to identify its address; people from all walks of life can recognize it.

It is a massive station with a total of 8 platforms, and work on a ninth platform is currently underway. The shuttle trains for Chittagong University also start their journey from here. Consequently, thousands of people visit this station daily to travel to different parts of the country using the train service.

You can buy tickets from the counter or via the government website according to your preference. Generally, getting tickets during the off-season isn't an issue, but people face some difficulties during festivals if bookings are not made in advance.

After purchasing a ticket, you can enter the platform by showing it. However, the platform is not meant for waiting; passengers usually wait inside the station during their scheduled train times. The station’s waiting room offers excellent seating and waiting facilities for passengers.

The hall room where passengers wait inside the station is enormous—so large that looking from one end to the other makes it seem very distant. There are plastic chairs for seating, and the entire area is kept secure by round-the-clock security forces. To ensure passengers don't get bored while waiting for their train, large TVs are kept running at the station.

Afterward, I entered the platform area. One notable thing is that ordinary people can enter the platform even without a ticket, despite a large sign at the entry gate stating that entry without a ticket is prohibited. Regardless, I informed security and entered with permission.

Next to each platform, there is a digital signboard with the platform number, which is easily visible to passengers. Not all platforms had trains at the time; when I visited, most trains had already departed for their destinations. However, I noticed some freight trains and passenger coaches.
