Yes and no. It seems that the exchanges keeping their steem powered up to add the pressure on the Witnesses, this for the very possibility you mentioned. But if they intervene again it will cause even more damage to their reputations. I think the exchanges are being told that if they power down and the witnesses regain consensus, that they will be frozen out in revenge. Which we all know is untrue.

This situation is not looking good. Too much mistrust and it is quickly becoming toxic.

That´s true. Too much tension, uncertainty, calculations and threats in the air for my liking :D :/ One thing is sure though, Steem is now in the spotlight all over the crypto world and that is undoubtedly a good thing ;)
