Hello, this is @gungho.

Today I'd like to talk about junk food and how it affects our children's lives directly and indirectly.

How does junk food enter into our homes in the first place anyway?

I think the major source of temptation is from advertisements either on YouTube or from other kids at school. If you have a spouse or neighbors or friends that don't agree with the way you want to eat in the house, they may accidentally bring in sweets, as they're trying to be kind and nice, but not thinking about the health benefits.

Families' lifesyle & habit

Healthy eating styles are learned early on at the age of around 3,4 and 5. If it's not controlled eating at this age, it can become a problem later on. Eating becomes a habit, and the habit engulfs the family in an incomprehensible way, creeping slowly into the family.

Weight Gain

If you don't nip the problem in the bud early on, you may see the signs of weight gain and lethargy in your children. Try to set up a routine of maybe only one junk food a week and to exercise every evening together with the family for 1 hour. This could mean 🎾 tennis or ping pong or just playing "it tag" together as a family.

Other Health Problems

Diabetes is a serious problem in Korea. It is in the top 3 of causes of death in Korea. Sugar and candy at an early age can set your child up for Diabetes, especially if it runs in the family.

How to prevent junk food from coming into the home.

1 Make rules for the amount of sweets.

2 Never reward a child with 🍬 candy or sweet things

3 Have soda off limits except for only on special occasions

4 Show children the bad effects of too much candy by showing them youtube videos. They might get scared and just reduce their candy intake.

Do you have any experiences with children and too many sweets? Tell me your story. I want to hear.

In our family we also limit amount of sweets and junk food. Usually it’s a treat on some holiday. We especially avoid sweets (M&M, Skittles, Gelly beans, lollipops etc.). Nowadays they add a lot of artificial stuff in kids treats.

Yes, and in that "artificial stuff" is cancer-causing agents, such as the dye number of the food coloring. As a mom, I find it extremely difficult to control this matter due to external cicumstances.

@gungho and it’s hard to explain others why we’re being so strict with food. We have allergies, so we use that as an extra excuse when people still don’t get it and ignore our rules. Also we tell our kids not to eat food someone gave them, but I don’t know if they do so when I don’t see them.

읽는건 그래도 편안한데... 음 영어로 말하는것은 좀... ㅎㅎ
