We're also in the minus double digits here in NS, I feel so bad for my chickens too! They're really tough though, they just hunker down and fluff out and wait it out. I need to invest in a heated waterer, I've been refilling theirs numerous times a day. I don't have an outside plug though...
We are in NS as well so we're in the same boat weather wise. We run an outdoor extension cord from the house to the barn for the winter and it saves us a few trips out to the barn. In previous years, like you, we had to make several trips to keep their water flowing.
Looks like were in for some more snow for the next few days. Time to hunker down some more!
