Laying In Bed...

Snuggling up with a loved one and watching a Horror Movie is a favorite past time for many of us. What makes these flicks even more terrifying is when you know it happened in real life. It's horrific to know that people actually went through the horrors of these films. Maybe not as Dramatic but none the less, still happened.

So here are the 13 Horror movies that actually happened! Delve deep and realise, some of the scariest stuff you've seen, might've been inspired by real events that someone actually went through. Gnarly... I hope you enjoy, if you do, let me know what you think in the comment section and swing me a resteem!

#13. The Exorcist (1973)

The Exorcist is based on a book which is based on real life of a boy named Roland Doe who was possessed by demons in 1949. The exorcism was so scary that there have been books written on people who witnessed it. This story will give you goosebumps, all for real reasons.

#12. Child's Play (1989)

This terrifying horror film was inspired from the uncanny tale of Robert the Doll, who was owned by Robert Eugene Otto. Robert the man received Robert the doll from a servant skilled in black magic and voodoo, who bore a grudge against the family. His parents said that they often heard Eugene talking to the doll and that the doll seemed to be talking back. They also further alleged that the doll would often giggle; a claim that was validated by the family plumber. Neighbours saw the doll moved by itself across windows when the family was out. Guests also swore that the doll changed expressions in front of them. Eugene often blamed knocked over furniture, broken pots and other mysterious phenomenon on the doll. He died in 1974, subsequent to which the doll was left in the attic till the house was bought again.

#11. Jaws (1975)

Jaws is a 1975 American thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg and based on Peter Benchley's 1974 novel of the same name. In the story, a giant man-eating great white shark attacks beachgoers on Amity Island, a fictional New England summer resort town, prompting the local police chief to hunt it with the help of a marine biologist and a professional shark hunter. The film stars Roy Scheider as police chief Martin Brody, Robert Shaw as shark hunter Quint, Richard Dreyfuss as oceanographer Matt Hooper, Murray Hamilton as Larry Vaughn, the mayor of Amity Island, and Lorraine Gary as Brody's wife, Ellen. The screenplay is credited to both Benchley, who wrote the first drafts, and actor-writer Carl Gottlieb, who rewrote the script during principal photography.

#10. Hostel (2005)

A film about backpackers being sold to people to be tortured and killed anyway they want, i think there is even someone who actually eats someone to death. With cases from Eastern Europe about missing backpackers left right and center, the movies were heavily inspired by that fear.

#9. The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)

The Exorcism of Emily Rose follows a lawyer who takes on the case of a priest who is charged with homicide after he performs an exorcism on Emily Rose (Jennifer Carpenter) and she dies. The story mostly takes place in a courtroom, with Emily Rose’s possession being told through courtroom testimony and flashbacks. But the possession and the subsequent trial is actually a fictionalized version of the possession of a German woman named Anneliese Michel. During the 1970s, she was believed to have been possessed by six or more demons. Michel began experiencing shaking and the inability to control her body at the age of 16 By the age of 21, her parents were seeking pastors to perform an exorcism. Two years later, the church finally granted permission for the exorcism and at the age of 23, Michel died from malnutrition and dehydration. Prosecutors charged Michel’s parents and the two priests who performed the exorcism with negligent homicide.

#8. The Amityville Horror (2005)

The movie is based on the events that took place in 1975 at 112, Ocean Avenue, the new house of the Lutz family in Amityville. This has been a very discussed case among paranormal researchers.

#7. The Hills Have Eyes (2005)

This cannibalistic classic is based on the disturbing story of Alexander 'Sawney' Bean, a man-eater and clan leader who lived in Scotland during the 16th Century. Sawney's clan was an inbred one that comprised of himself, his wife, eight sons, six daughters and plenitudes of grandsons and granddaughters. As the tale goes, Sawney and his clan tortured, killed and cannibalised over one-thousand people in the years that they were active. They lived in caves and only ventured out after night in order to find 'their next meal.' However, one night, the clan ambushed a couple in which the man put up a fight till a group of villagers appeared to the site of the battle. The Beans fled the scene. Eventually, King James VI was alerted and he launched a manhunt which culminated with the capture and execution of this egregious cannibal clan.

#6. Wolf Creek (2005)

Three backpackers are driving through the Australian outback when their car breaks down. They are then found by a man, taken back to his home, and bad things happen to them. The story is based on a few different true crimes in Australia: In the 1990s Ivan Milat kidnapped backpackers hitchhiking and tortured them in the forest. Similarly, Bradley John Murdoch abducted two tourists in the 2000s.

#5. The Girl Next Door (2007)

The Girl Next Door follows two young girls who must move into their aunt’s house after the death of their parents. Unfortunately, the aunt is a sadistic psychopath and the neighborhood boys seem content to allow both girls to be tortured and sexually abused. It’s a movie so disturbing that you can’t get it out of your head, much less believe it could actually be real. But it’s actually the fictionalized version of the torture and death of an Indiana teen named Sylvia Likens in 1965. Her and her sister had been left in the care of family friend Gertrude Baniszewski, who soon began taking out her financial troubles on Likens. Her children and several other neighborhood children would beat Likens, tie her up, force feed her, and sexually abuse her. After being tied up in the basement, she died at the age of sixteen from shock, malnutrition, and a brain hemorrhage.

#4. The Conjuring (2013)

Ed and Lorraine Warren are real life paranormal investigators who claim that this case was exceptionally hard for them to deal with. Fan of possessed dolls? We have it here for you.

#3. The Silence Of The Lambs (1991)

The part of America that remembers the name of Ted Bundy regrets the fact that such a man ever existed. Bundy was notoriously known for killing at least thirty people between 1974 and 1978. In fact, his name followed such a gross reputation that Thomas Harris, the man who wrote the book 'Red Dragon' that later inspired the Hannibal Lecter movie series, sent a copy of his book to Bundy as he was undergoing trial, which leads us to believe that large chunks of Buffalo Bill and Hannibal Lecter were drawn from this man. Similar to Buffalo Bill, Bundy's modus operandi was based on pretending to be injured and to ask help from unsuspecting victims. He would later pounce on his prey as soon as he lured it into an inconspicuous place. On the inspiration behind the infamous Lecter, it is claimed that the author of the book, Harris, once told his librarian that the character of Lecter was inspired by William Coyne, a local murderer, who had escaped from prison in 1934 and then gone on a ghastly rampage involving killings and acts of cannibalism.

#2. The Strangers (2008)

This movie has psychopaths and murders. The director of this movie drew inspiration from the murders by serial killer Charles Mansion and a series of events that took place near his childhood home. Love gripping movies that scare till the very end? If yes, then this is it.

#1. An American Haunting (2005)

The film is based on the novel The Bell Witch: An American Haunting, by Brent Monahan. The events in the novel are based on the legend of the Bell Witch. The film switches from the 21st century to the 19th, and features a subplot about a recently divorced mother (Susan Almgren) whose daughter (Isabelle Almgren-Doré) is going through something like the same experience as Betsy Bell.
