New to Steemit, and trying to find My Way

in #introducemyself7 years ago (edited)

Hi community,
Formally approaching you in this matter, as I have grown accustomed to formal communication. That is what my work requires of me, and thus I have unlearned to interact in a social normal way in my own free time. As an HR professional, you always try to maintain neutrality as much as possible, and not choose parties. And thus it has become an habit to write formally to maintain some sort of distance. I consider this as an annoying habit of mine, as I am a highly sociable and personal person. In face to face interactions, you see nothing of this sort of distance of mine, and I easily connect with my peers, regardless of the context.

Even though I have created my account a few weeks ago, only now I have just decided to enter my first post. I have to admit, honestly, this is quite a big step. As you, the community, are probably well aware, this usability of Steemit is unlike any other medium, and it does require a bit of research. But here I am, right now, (in)formally introducing myself, and thereby officially starting the journey as a Steemit member and contributor.

As previously mentioned, my work field lies in HR, and I am highly passionate about this function. I have chosen this as my profession, mainly because I am this personal type, that deeply cares about my fellows, may you be my colleague, friend or unknown passer-by. Therefore, I hope to be able to contribute to the community by sharing my experiences with you, as well as my expertise. With a background in Industrial- and Organizational Psychology, my main goal within HR is to contribute to the well-being of employees in organizations. Currently active in the Netherlands, my hometown, Rotterdam, with an amazing view over the skyline of the city, I have entered my fourth employer.

As I have obtained quite a passion for IT, I am currently working for one of the leaders within the ICT sector in my country. With previous working experience for Dell, I am pretty well aware of the trends in IT.. unfortunately though, I know nothing about using this technology myself. I am barely able to explain my father how to fix a little bug of the key-board (you know, when you press Ctrl, Shift and something something at the same time and become unable to use your basic characters/signs and need to change this back). But it gets me. In our ever changing societal landscape, where things change quicker than my hair grows grey, I love following these trends and seeing how this impacts our future. And that is how I came about Steemit.

I can imagine such an introduction is not what you are looking for. But this honestly my first blog in 7 years, when I wrote a first blog for a minor in my studies. I hope though, my blogs will get better, and you will be better to understand the messages I am trying to convey. I hope I can entertain you, and educate you at the same time.
I am pleased to meet you, and am looking forward to a pleasant Steemit experience. Below a picture of myself, being highly zen. See you soon in my next post.

I am fairly active in Freemasons and have seen it in other groups too: We value formality. I own 4 tuxedos now and I find them comfortable, even for ballroom dancing. Of course I am comfortable in sweatpants and a tee-shirt, but being formal has great value too. Think about the lax airing of "dirty laundry" on so many social media platforms. Is that You? Probably not....Formality is a type of gravitas for me. I carry it fairly well too, at least in my own mind and images of self. It might seem like a weakness sometimes, but a weakness you are well aware of is actually called a "strength." Steem on!

Congrats...

There is no "right or wrong" blog post...frankly I think most of us blog in an effort to better get to know ourselves...granted we seek recognition...in fact...getting some can be addictive...but...like yourself...the technique behind the tech stuff is a language I will never fully learn...frankly...this community is a strange one to work around...I still have no idea how all the rules work on upvotes...resteeming...trending...hot...the different coins...however...I decided to just write stuff that interests me...see if it connects and spend some money on promotion in order to get recognized...good luck with your "steeming"....

Me like! You have signed up recently so I'd like to offer you my welcome. Have one upvote on the house and keep up the good work!
As a fresh steemian it can be hard to increase your steem power so maybe you want to try @MinnowPowerUp where you can earn up to 30% more steem power than just directly powering up! It's a subscription based daily upvote bot that draws its power from a delegation pool. I made this post to explain the system in more depth and show how I earn over $1 a day in upvotes.
PS! If you would like to get free cryptocurrency by airdrop then www.powtoken.com is giving away free tokens to everyone who signs up using only a facebook account!

Welcome to the steem community!

Congratulations! Your introduction post has been selected for my special manual curation today!
It has received an upvote, and a resteem to help give you a boost. I'm following you now, too!

My curation focus is on fairly new Steemit users who don't speak English as a first or primary language, but who are writing and posting in English.

I search new posts in the #introducemyself and #introduceyourself tags daily, and try to dedicate at least 50% of my article curation to new Steemit members who meet the above focus criteria. My goal is to discover and curate an average of 5 new Steemit users per day.

I follow each person I curate because it is very encouraging for a new member to see their following grow.

25% of my daily curation is dedicated to upvoting, resteeming and commenting on new articles posted by the Steemit users I am following.

I also curate comments from all Steemit users. I look to reward comments and replies which stand out as having thoughtful insight, offer benefit to the community at large and reflect the unique personality of the commenter.

You have done a great job explaining the formality of your post, @cedricheuvel! It is not easy to just start writing for a public audience, yet not really know when you hit the Post button whether anyone will actually read it, and how it will be received. I encourage you to look into entering some writing contests such as those hosted weekly by @originalworks. Those would fit a formal style very well. Just go to their blog to see past contests, and watch for the next one. Cheers!

Welcome to the writing again, I think you will find many several styles in making posts, but I think the best is to keep in mind that in the blockchain will remain materials that are worth for you in the first place. All the best for the journey!! :)
