Introduction Post! I'm Lori: Mother, Psychotherapist, Animal lover & Friend!

Hi fellow Steemians- I am really excited to be joining this unique and very  cool family! My son @stevenalexander has inspired me to join Steemit because of his enthusiastic involvement within this community. For the past 38 years I have been practicing insight-oriented psychodynamic psychotherapy, both clinically and privately. In the course of my practice, I have naturally learned many things. Most notable are the following concepts which I believe are universals: we all strive to feel connected, to belong, to be supported, and to be validated. It seems that Steemit achieves these things organically for its members!
For a long time I have had a desire to write - random thoughts, poems, essays, etc., but never quite had the platform to do this.  With the development of the Steemit community, it seems that I now have the opportunity to accomplish this!

Since this is my introductory post, I'd like to share some pictures of my family. Below you can see my son @stevenalexander and his Dad at the Long Island Aquarium, communing with the birds, and the monkees! As I mentioned, I am an animal lover and I am the proud owner of 3 beautiful rescue turtles which I'll have to find pictures of ...but I'll save them for next time ! ;) Take a look at my son and husband below.

If you continue to scroll down, you can see our very cute shitsu "Wolfie", and our amazing cat "Kitty", who sadly passed away 2 weeks ago at the age of 15. We loved kitty very much but unfortunately he was suffering from stomach lymphoma so we are at ease that he is now at peace. Below you can see our two babies :)

As a psychotherapist, I really have a passion for helping people. I have an extensive background working with people dealing with everything from relationship issues, anxiety and depression, mood disorders, eating disorders, and personality disorders.  I am very much looking forward to sharing many thoughts, observations and acquired Life Lessons with this intriguing community! Thanks so much for stopping by and I will continue posting again very soon! I'll be back with a verification picture within the next couple of days since i know it is an important rule of Steemit!

Beautiful pictures. I love the picture of your son with the monkey, I do not know what he showed the monkey but it was interested.

Thanks so much for your feedback! I am glad that the monkey picture caught your eye as that captured an amazing moment. I took the photo and my son was showing the monkey his cell phone!

He got me too, Haha love it!!!

You sound like a really warm, happy, caring and fun person. Well done on a great introductory post! I look forward to "following" you ;-)

Hey @lynb I appreciate your warm welcome! I do really care about people, animals, our environment, etc. I believe if I can make even a small positive contribution to the world in my lifetime, my life will have had meaning! In my profession I really do have the opportunity to effect positive changes in peoples’ lives, all the while enriching my own, by the satisfaction I get helping others. I will check your posts out now, & hope to continue our exchanges!

I really have a passion for helping people.

Welcome fellow Steemian @lorigrant.lcsw!

You have found a perfect community for sharing your expertise.

Thankfully, you have someone to mentor you, as there are many components to this platform.

My best advice is enjoy! Find your niche and blog as you would for free on any other platform.

I joined a few months ago, and can say it is everything good you've heard/read about.

Again, Welcome!

Btw, the photo of your son having the undivided attention of the mammal behind the glass is really contest worthy. Pass along to him my up vote should he enter it into one of the Steemit photog contests.

Peace.

HI! Thank you so much for the warm welcome! I am really excited to have joined this community & I am very grateful to have a mentor- I am basically a dinosaur when it comes to technology... this will be quite the learning curve for me! Steemit seems very layered and complex but absolutely fascinating. So glad you enjoyed the great photo with the monkey- I will be posting more pics soon!

absolutely fascinating.

Indeed, it is! Powering up is an excellent way for people at all junctures of life to enter the investment ‘world’ at zero-risk.

Peace.

i love turtles i want to see turtles...

Hey @foodosaur- so good to hear from you! Will be posting their pics soon! Actually I have 2 red-ear sliders & 1 diamondback terrapin/ they were all rescued: the diamondback was a new hatchling that HS kids were getting ready to crush. That was 14 years ago, & at that time my daughter caught this going on, grabbed the baby turtle from them & brought him home! He has thrived! One of the sliders was rescued from NYC’s Chinatown- a baby turtle in a bucket being sold for soup. The second slider was being mistreated raffled off at a church street fair. I offered up $25 for him & left with the turtle! All the turtles are 14 yrs old now! As promised, pics will be posted soon!

Hey! I just posted a new post with my turtle in case your interested!
