Turning Dreams On/Off Like Your iPhone to Becoming Oceanic.
Are you one of those people who dream in colours? Or, maybe, black and white is the main landscape pallet of your dreams? Are you a simple observer or an integral part of it? Again, maybe, you are one who goes back and forth?? Are the realities faced in your dreams anything like your everyday life or does it incorporate multiple facets well beyond the expectation of physical laws, social norms or even happen on worlds beyond Earthly realms, other words???
In the last article I posted, my fingers were brought to write about a legendary subject and, out of imagination and creativity, dreams came to the surface poised to look at us eye-to-eye. The rich responses that flowed forth from multiple inspiring Steemians inspires me to write more on the subject. It is a subject for which I have had my own dose of experimentation since I was a little guy of 3 and a half, maybe four years old on…
I can’t help but think that when Einstein shared the idea that “Creativity has the power to encircle the universe, knowledge gets you from A to B”, he tried to point out to the inherent and fundamental difference between knowledge and comprehension. Meanwhile, this argument also offers comprehension as a doorway to a sense of understanding beyond the constraints of the usual rational thinking, closing in on the much illusive realms of non-duality.
What would it take for understanding to come full circle and realize that it really stands on the immaterial shoulders of comprehension to see within the confines of materialism without a dualistic perspective?
Looking into the roots of the word “comprehension”, one finds that two main ideas: First, the idea of “togetherness” in “com-“ and, the second, “to seize with the mind” in -prehendere. I can’t help but believe that dreams give access to a portal of limitless potential tapping right into consciousness itself.
As everything is relative to everything else in a space, dictated by location and definition of subjects, analysis cuts right through the essence of reality creating its divisions and thus allowing for the illusive existence of an A and a B as being different identities. On the other hand, the creative mind allows for the imagination of one’s mind to go through and live with an experiential knowledge beyond that of a dualistic nature. Dreams have the power to open us up to paradigms limitless in essence. If rationality found itself saturated, bordered at words like “infinity” and “limitlessness”, what is it that points to such concepts, what is it in us that moves toward these incomprehensible ideas?
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”
(Albert Einstein)
In our occidental culture, a theory of the mind is still in such disarray as to resemble hard piece of oil and water never being able to collide with one another, their philosophies being so incompatible with one another… It has been a long problem entrenched in the culture where I come from and one that is posing a mounting monstrous challenge for it too. If the Occidental world could start to come to terms with consciousness, maybe the nightmare it causes to many would start to dissipate like vapour on the warmth of sun-drenched morning air?
For me and as far as I can remember, dreams have offered perspective in what has happened earlier in my life as well as what is actually happening to me in the moment. They are a constant reflections and reminder of what is, what was and how I dance with now in relation to the past. coming to the realization that they all have a deep sense can be overwhelming because, really, they call to our attention almost as readily as a iPhone in the middle fo the night. Watching them like watching TV rises our nervous system and we find ourselves waking up still tired from all this action that happened in the dreamscapes of our nights…
Learning to turn the TV, the iPhone or dreams on and off is a discipline to cultivate that helps us live with this capability we all have. We are not anymore slaves to our TVs, phones than we are to our dreams. Learning to shut them off and turning them back on is a technique we can all learn from and live with to attain more balance in our every day, and night, life. Telling your mind to remember your dreams or not will allow this phenomena to occur and, with a little practice, become a trend, eventually a habit. Relaxing the focus, or sight, allows us to stay clear from obsessing about the dreams we are having. This way, such as in what happens in our everyday life, we aren’t caught in the waves of emotions. We become observers of realities passing on the surface of our mind without having to be tossed around by its movements brought forth by the winds of changes.
In some cultures, it is mostly prescribed to sleep deeply without focus at all on dreams and, thus, achieving deeper and calmer sleeps. The unfortunate effect of it is that it doesn’t prepare your for the storms when the dreams will come to the surface and won’t leave you alone neither night nor day. Practicing dream yoga, allows you to calm the mind and breathe through the wavy times, especially when they are scary.
Yet, it has also more often than I can remember brought forth visions of near and far futures. Most of the time, it is very difficult to know whether it is simply your imagination creating landscapes acquainted to the ones you have seen consciously or unconsciously in your every day life. Sometimes, the faces of the people I have not meet yet, outfits and locations I haven’t yet visited come into the vision of the dreams and tell stories of what is to come in great clarity. Thus, when I finally come to these places or finally meet with the people I was destined to meet, it is usually with an excitement I can hardly explain. When I first came to realize that it is what was happening, I was about 6 years old. I had seen my bike and every other circumstances coalesce before my eyes in what most people around me called reality, or in real life, as my mother would say. Since then, this phenomena clearly became more and more present in my life as soon as my mind is in a relaxed state and body well rested and pretty stress free. Going through such motions, allows one to start to recognize synchronicity’s face when it pokes out of our mind’s clouds. Anyway, this would have to be another post altogether… Soon enough, when the time has ripened.
Everyday, life’s challenges come forth in one shape or another. When I am feeling strong, it is easy to take anything in strides and breathe through the entire day not having a single gasp. But on tougher days, I feel more vulnerable, exposed to “fears” of this or that so to speak, my breath becomes shallower and my mind starts wanting to run erratically, frantically pacing like a wild horse. The training in dreams to face such eventualities as well as the ones of similar nature allows me to ground myself much more easily to a point where I feel like a mountain around which turmoils of waters flow by at insane speeds, almost senselessly but most usually with a level meaninglessness hard to legitimize.
Since we can’t always be strong, practicing a healthy dose of conscious dreaming trains one’s mind into the disciplines required for the attainment of a grounded moveable state of mind that won’t take you on rides like a wild horse could easily do… Taking a ride on a wild horse can be scary and can very easily bring you into landscapes you aren’t familiar with as well as in areas that can actually be dangerous to oneself. Putting reigns on your mind would allow you to still go to these places but you would get there at a very different pace, your pace! And when it would come to dangerous places, you’d learn to slowly move away from them until you would be strong enough to face the realities they offer you to challenge yourself to go beyond yourself, beyond all fear blocking you. In your spirit form when you dream, you can’t die. So we can explore, learn and grow for the benefit of the nights and more importantly, our every day life too.
Well, I really look forward to reading your comments, questions, experiences and thoughts on what I just shared with you all. It is such a pleasure and look forward to continuing this series of chat which offer a limitless content for us all to scrumptiously munch onto and live with.
Till next time, keep your smile, take very good care, thrive on and Steem on!
Bitopia has elected @eric-boucher as our personal spiritual guide through the awesome yet often confusing playground that is the universe.
The human conciousness is one of the least understood mechanisms in science. Yet it lives within each living and breathing being.
Dreams are often incomprehensible, and yet you seem to have a firm grasp on the experience that everybody has yet, very few ever understand.
I hope to hear more from you.
Namaste.
First of all, I am very grateful for your grace-filled comment. May I be able to be of help when necessary, a guide in darker times and a bridge toward the objects of your pursue, if one or multiple there is/are.
@bitopia, this is so very interesting! I am taken aback and the surprise gives me a soft and kind smile of gratitude. I guess we all have realms in which we are more comfortable. The world of dreams have been for a very long time, one of my favourite playground. Far from being all knowing in the matter, my experiences in this field are still vast and, since I delved into it very deeply, I feel like I can also share many aspect of it that crosses over from the physical to the spiritual and back.
I know for a fact that I am not the only one doing or who have practiced conscious dreaming, far from it, and that this style of meditation is but one of many that are used to bridge the illusory gap of duality toward oneness. Studying the mind in a systematic way is a matter the yogis of Tibet have used for centuries. They aren't the only ones who travelled these roads less travelled, but their ways are extremely close to what I have done since I was a little child.
Many cultures, especially of shamanic and animist background have delved into the subject and have profound knowledge about both consciousness and dreams.
I can't help but point to the Australian Aborigines for that matter. With over 300 interweaved cultures before contact with the Europeans, and being one of the oldest unbroken culture in our human history, they have wealth to offer that go beyond anyones imagination...
I look forward to hearing from you as well and, as I am about to write the next post about techniques relating to conscious dreaming, I am eager to hear from you to see what you think and what you'd be interested in reading about coming from this end.
Till next time, keep your smile, take good care, thrive on and Steem on.
Namaste :)
There is definitely a huge "Lucid Dreaming" community. I have studied a little on the subject and am very curious to understand what may be achieved while in a lucid dream which may be translated into reality. You may be able to enlighten me a little more on the matter. I am currently focused on the manipulation and altering of our consciousness reality. My current focus is on the study of the Law of Attraction and Zen philosophy. I am a daily practitioner of meditation and definitive affirmations. There is much that we may discuss it seems :) I will be following you closely @eric-boucher!
If you are interested, have a read on my journey and leap of faith here on Steemit.
Namaste!
I conquer! We will have much to share and, as you pointed out, there is a huge group of people open to such discussions here on Steemit and this community is growing fast!

very profound @eric-boucher! Maybe an article on how to practice conscious dreaming! I am aware that we all dream, however I can rarely recollect any of it, if at all. For me, sleep is like entering an abyss temporarily only to reemerge with a sense of being revitalised physically and mentally. There are times I have visceral experiences when I feel the need to pause and reflect as I recognise the moment has special meaning, like it was predestined to happen. How can I improve my recall or experience of dreaming and more importantly practice conscious dreaming? Thanks for your post:)
This HAS to be the next post now! ;) You just officially made it concrete, thanks for it! It had to be one of the next ones, but it will be the subject of the following one in this series. I kind of hinted at how to do it in this post, but it wasn't the main focus. Next article on the other hand will focus specifically on such techniques. There are quite a few very interesting ones used in meditation outside of sleep time as well as the ones used during sleep. I share on this topic.
Namaste :)
You read my mind @hollywood81 :) Exactly the comment I was about to write.
It would be great if you could make an article about this @eric-boucher
It ought to be a post specifically about conscious dreaming, how to get there and techniques useable during sleep time as well as during meditations... I'm so glad you got to read this one too @szuri. I thought of you loads while writing this. You might have actually integrated the whole even before reading it!?! ;)
Namaste :)
You know me so well @eric-boucher :)

@eric-boucher This was an interesting read. I'm constantly dreaming and I remember them well. I write about my dreams all the time. I don't know what they mean or how the mind works. Feel free to have a read and let me know your thoughts. I'd love to hear your insight :-)
Thank you for reaching out in such a manner, you are hooking me into checking your posts out, now that I have to assume they are relating dream stories, at least in part, in your blog.
Becoming aware of one's dreams is the very first step in using them as a learning tool. the next post which will be about conscious dreaming might interest you even more then. I'm sure you will relate to it all very easily and maybe even get some meditation tools very useful for such practice as dream yoga.
Looking forward to reading and hearing from you. Till next time, keep on smiling and taking good care, Steem on and thrive, happy travels in dream lands!
