Is store bought almond milk actually good for you?

in #life8 years ago

I remember a few years back everybody thought that it was.

Within the past couple of years though it's been revealed that major brands of almond milk have less than 2% almonds.

These brands include Blue Diamond Almond Breeze and Silk.

That means your almond milk has less than a handful of almonds in it unless you make it by yourself at the house.

Almond milk also has less calcium, protein, and many other nutrients then cow's milk.

Now I'm lactose intolerant so I never drink cow's milk anyway but I know a lot of people that are switching from cow's milk to almond milk thinking that they are heading in a better direction with their health.

If you ask me drinking almond milk is a lot like drinking a glass of water with some vitamins in it.

Sure it's good for you but at the same time not nearly as comprehensively good for you as a glass of cow's milk.

If you're vegan or if you're lactose intolerant it may not matter how healthy cow's milk is because you're bound to drink either almond milk, coconut milk, or some other alternative.

If you make almond milk at the house though using a blender and water you can get a good ratio of almond to water.

The store bought brands only give you around 2% though meaning that there's almost no almonds in them at all.

I'll resteem and follow you. I'd love to see more of you. I cherish cow's milk anyway.

Almond milk is not natural. It is the alternative to regular milk. If you don't like option A try option B. As long as you are not drinking water.

I feel like "good" is such a subjective term to use in this case. Health and taste wise it's a trade off. It's probably cheaper than making your own at home as organic almonds aren't cheap. Personally I'm not the worlds biggest fan of almond milk, but I also don't mind it. It's good for making smoothies or protein shakes I guess. I don't really think of it as a milk substitute to be honest, I just think of it as its' own thing.

I think that's a good way to look at it.

Absolutely beautiful
