Very interesting. I think you did a good job pointing out how humor can be a mechanism used by one's ego to create a sense of superiority over another person. In some ways and for some individuals, humor is used as a form of social aggression in order to create dominance and status among a group. For instance, in a bully type situation the bully may hold a higher status within the group and exert their dominance over another individual with lower status by ridiculing and making fun of them. The bully's status within the group is then either inflated or deflated depending on whether or not their followers are receptive to the ridiculing behavior or whether they ignore it/ stand up against it.
I think that on a positive side though, humor connects individuals. Humor can be used to lighten a mood or allow for individuals to relate to one another.
It seems to me that in both case (positive and negative uses) humor is a social adaptation of our species. Nice post.
Really got me thinking.
Heck yeah I agree completely with both points you make and like you aid both a form of us humans adapting over time in social situations.
I feel like one of the important things is to be self-aware and aware of these sides to humor. That way we can stop ourselves or identify it in others to help.
Thank yo so much fro your time and attention. I really appreciate you taking time out of your day to read this :)
God bless.
Namaste
I agree that being aware of how we use humor is key. In that way we can better understand ourselves and also be more aware of our impact on others.
:)
Amen amennnnnnnn. You might have to write on this ;)
Thanks. Maybe I will at some point. However, good posts draw out good ideas. I probably wouldn't be able to do this on my own.
