"SC-S28/W3-Movie Highlights|Voices unheard(Lajja)
Hello Teaching Team |
|---|
Hello My Steemain Friends ,
Today I am writing about an interesting Steemit Engagement Challenge S28- W3: which is all time my favourite topic ""Movie Highlights: ""Voices unheard" this amazing challenge organised by @ruthjoe
Watch a film that focuses on marginalized or underrepresented communities |
|---|
Today, I'm talking about the film "Lajja" a women-centric film. It explores the various types of atrocities and related incidents faced by women in society, and how women are oppressed by a patriarchal society. The film depicts a girl's courage to break the dowry system.
How a girl's parents wait with folded hands at a wedding to fulfill the dowry obligation. Seeing her father's helplessness, a girl breaks the dowry system and raises her voice. It depicts a variety of incidents faced by women in different settings, portrayed by a diverse cast.
The songs, dances, and expressions are all excellent. It beautifully depicts how women strive to assert their rights and protect their dignity. The film's lead actors, Madhuri Dixit, Manisha Koirala, Mahima Chaudhary, and Anil Kapoor, deliver outstanding performances.
Lajja was produced and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. Released in 2001, the film was made at a cost of approximately 22 crore rupees and grossed 3.5 million rupees. It received a good response even abroad. The film highlights the exploitation of women's rights in various contexts, including issues like abortion.
What new perspective or culture did this movie introduce you to? |
|---|
This film reveals the cultural context in which women, regardless of their environment, are subject to exploitation. They are sometimes oppressed by social customs, sometimes exploited, and sometimes forced to submit to dowry demands in front of a large gathering. When an unwed mother asks for marriage, her child is declared illegitimate and is aborted. Crowds are like animals, unconcerned with the suffering of women. Thus, it shows how women's rights are exploited and how women courageously raise their voices for their dignity.
Were there any stereotypes challenged or broken in the film |
|---|
This film directly challenges the dowry system. The boy's father, arrogantly twirling his mustache, repeatedly demands dowry from the girl's father, stating that his son will not perform the wedding rituals until he receives the full amount. He threatens the girl's father that he will take the wedding procession back without the wedding taking place.
The girl, tired of hearing this, sees her father's bowed head and folded hands, and breaks this tradition, flatly refusing to marry. She directly tells the boy's family to take the wedding procession back. In this film, this girl has courageously defied this tradition. So, through the dowry system, people satisfy their greed and are surrounded by the ego of being the father of a boy.
Which character's journey did you relate to the most? |
|---|
I really liked Madhuri Dixit's character in this film, when she falls in love with someone and is about to become a mother before marriage. She plays the role of Sita Mata in Ramlila. But when she refuses to marry a thug who wants to marry her,
she is slandered and accused and beaten by the mob, and her child is killed in the womb. It was a very painful scene, depicting how a woman is made vulnerable during pregnancy. When she tries to protect herself and her children, this scene deeply touched my heart.
What’s one message from the film that stuck with you |
|---|
This film gives us the message that women should always be vigilant about their rights. You should never give anyone so much power that they can exploit your rights, and you should learn to raise your voice for your rights. What is society? The more you suppress it, the more it will oppress you.
No matter how much you watch, it will still put you to the test every day, so you will have to respect your own rights. When girls oppose dowry seekers like this, no girl's father will need to bow his head. They will be proud of their daughters, that they are fathers.
I want to invite my friends to take part in this contest: , @lirvic , @sualeha , @cymlon"
Thankyou 🙏
