Unity Park/Playground — Christmas Unplugged 3.0

picture of the place/exterior.
The title of my post may confuse you a bit because of the Christmas Unplugged right? This place I'm reviewing is an Ancient of days amusement park where kids come and play, have fun and the likes. It has been transformed in one sense and in the other sense, it hasn't. Now let's take a lot at these details as the contest entails.
Location and Management of Unity Park |
|---|
This Park is a large plot of land owned by the government and it's been used for recreational activities for years. Since I was born, this was the only park I knew in Uyo and it's labelled as Unity park. This park is located at Udoudoma Avenue, Opposite First Bank of Nigeria, or as some people call it, banking layout.
You can use various routes to get there. These are possible routes you can use to access this park as it's very large and extensive.
| Nsikak Eduok Avenue | Ring Road 3 |
|---|---|
| Oron Rd | Itiam Rd, etc... |
These are some of the possible routes you can use. We have discovery park at Nsikak Eduok, Off Akpanadem Market. Some people confuse discovery park with Unity Park. This park is managed by a group of person who manages the Ibibio Museum inside this park. Now let's talk about the history background of this park and how the name Christmas Unplugged 3.0 came to be.
Historical Background and Artifacts |
|---|
The oldest bamboo tree in Akwa Ibom is seen in this place. Unfortunately, I didn't get to snap the tree because I couldn't trek to where it was. The park is so big that if you want to walk round, a day won't be enough. This place has been in existence since 1800 as a land mass because it was created beautifully in the year 1929 when the Ibom Museum which is in the heart was created.

So the park is even older than me by far. The park is used for football and other recreational activities. Back in the says, it was decorated specially for children to play. There were sea saws, swings, pyramid game, trampoline and other fun games which every child craved to be seen on. Now, it's only the pyramid that's there for children. Archery and football fields are in the park for adults
It was this year it was rebranded because of the Christmas season. Now, the place is the most populated place in Uyo. That's when the Christmas comes in. This is the main entrance of the park and it's fenced all round to prevent unauthorized access during official days. So we amusement parks in a general park.
Entrance, Walkways, and Atmosphere |
|---|
Unity Park has two main entrances now. Back then, it was open, so people created entrances for themselves. There's a gate by the entrance and this gate is mostly used in festive periods where they'll get a fee from those bringing vehicles. The gate is black and visible from the outside end inside. There's a large fence with decorative iron bars around the field. It bet it took the workers 2 weeks to raise this fence to this standard.
The atmosphere is giving nature walk and the walkways are damn beautifully decorated by trees from the entrance to the end. Tape lights are placed as rooftops of the walkway, making it even more beautiful than it should be. At the entrance, there's an entertainer particularly for children who welcomes them and take them to the park for different kinds of games. The ambience is just giving glittering vibes.
Those who come on foot doesn't get to pay a dime for entering the place, but those who drive gets to pay a ticket or gate fee of 200 naira which is 2.2 steems.
Interior/Facilities |
|---|
I'll be detailed about their facilities as there are a lot of facilities in this place now with their recent renovations. The interior is wide with a lot of food stands which I'll not be specific with. Reasons being that I won't be able to describe each of the food stands in this park as they are detachable. So I'll be talking about the game category as the food category is vast and not distinctive.
_Toonland Theme Park: This is a park inside the Ibom park where children have classic fun. What do I mean by classic? It's a large space, more like a gaming center where lots of children games are. It's basically for children, but adults do guide their children to about stories that touches. In this park, there's a ticket booth where you get to make payments before entering the park.

Children get to pay for whatever game they play as there are attendants on each game. If you want to play PES 4 or 5, you'll have to pay 2k in naira which is 22.2 steems**.
The design is gorgeous and attractive to children. There's a gate at the entrance to prevent people from entering anyhow especially in this kidnapping era. There are a lot of games in this facility. This includes;
- Basket ball nets
- Wheels that turn
- Bubble trampoline
- Trampoline and Archery
- Football
- Stage Presence for performances
- Horse wheels, etc
These are some of the games in this facility and it's not far from the gate. If you're using the second entrance, you get to see where everywhere booms. The first entrance is basically for cars to drive in while the second entrance is for pedestrians. If you're using the second entrance, all games are by the right while food stands are by the left with others.
Arcadia: This is another amusement park section where virtual reality games, football, garden games, car racing and archery are done and at an affordable price. It's a wide space and I don't really know how people love archery so much that it's more populated than other games. I'd love to try this virtual reality game. To me, this is the best facility and do you know what? They don't just play, they sell food players can use to entertain themselves.

This facility is close to the Ibibio Museum. You can either use the first or the second gate to access this facility. These are the prices of their goods and services.
| Water | 500 naira | 5.4 steems |
|---|---|---|
| Smoothie | 2000 naira | 21.7 steems |
| Chicken in sauce | 2000 | 21.7 |

The Convenience: The convenience isn't exempted in this kind of place where over 5000 people are gathered. The only problem is that their convenience is just two and not as wide as it should be to accommodate more than 20 persons.
Parking Lots: The parking lot of this place for any type of vehicle is large. They can't run out of parking spaces even if the whole Uyo wants to gather there.
Electricity and Power Supply |
|---|
Electricity is directional in this park because they have their own power supply in the form of a diesel generator that powers the whole facilities in this park. The picture below shows their generator.
Security |
|---|
There are securities at the entrances and even at every stands to avoid cases of theft, insecurity and forms of kidnapping which the park is a targeted place to get children. These securities are armed to threaten these ones who may be threats to the park.

Quality of Service |
|---|
Their services are relatable right from the gate. You get to meet this friendly composed entertainers who walk you down to stands you may find your interests. In terms of communication, they are respectful, putting the attitudes of customers behind them and giving the best they can. They also guide the novice instead of assuming they should have previous knowledge already.
Personal Experience |
|---|
Personally, I've been to the Arcadia to play their virtual reality game. I didn't want anyone to video me because up there, I wasn't in the real world. I was elsewhere. I had the opportunity to eat in the park with my friends. I ate fried rice and beef that night and also #2000 naira suya. It was an amazing experience seeing the park at its boom. I got to watch other children play the car racing game including the couple.
