Yes, we go against our core inner deeper truer self, but it's not a greater offense. We don't have ownership of others, while we do have ownership of ourselves. Violating others is a greater harm than violating ourselves. Yes, eternal truths like moral principles being lived by would make the world better for everyone.

I am saying that the harm to ourselves is actually greater because it attacks our soul(however you want to define soul), while the victim is attacked only physically, mentally or emotionally.
I do not want to minimize the damage done to the other, but to acknowledge however deep the hurt to another, the hurt to ourselves is even greater.
