RE: Autumn On The Homestead; Entry for The Homestead Photography Contest
Yes I have a splitter and a helper (@ensoh). I am grateful for the splitter, for sure but I am even more grateful for the help. You know the old saying "many hands makes light work".
Howdy sir hhayweaver! yes sir, that's a great saying and so true, you can't much harder labor than cutting and chopping wood. Is that for a fireplace or some other type of wood heater?
I have a wood stove in our "back room" and a wood boiler in the basement. The boiler eats firewood when it is at full burn (about a cord every 1-1/2 weeks) which amounts to about 11 cords per season. It is a lot of work but if I keep the fires burning the oil consumption is almost zero compared spending over $3,500 to heat the house.
howdy sir hhayweaver! oh wow...that's a great system. And you are able to heat the house if the electric goes out?
Yes and no, the boiler requires electric to run the controls, but I have the boiler on a battery backup that keeps it going for a little while which is enough time to get the generator hooked up and running.
