A Hike Above Mosier ORsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #photography6 years ago

These are from a little hike we did about three years ago when I still lived near the Columbia River Gorge. This hike started in the small town of Mosier, OR and goes up to a hill overlooking the town and the Columbia River.

One of the first things you see on this hike is an old pioneer graveyard.

Here are a few of the headstones. Life could be very short back then.

The next item up on the hike is Mosier Creek Falls. The lower portion is about a 70 foot drop. Here is link to a You Tube video of 2 people going over it in a raft. I've done a little rafting, and gone over Husum Falls on the White Salmon which is about 8-10 feet, but this is definitely out of my league. :)

Here is a shot of the upper part of the falls.

A look over the edge before the plunge.

Looking up the hill to some of the wildflowers starting to bloom.

Looking south a little peek of the top of Mt Hood.

More of the wild flowers nearing the top.

A panorama I stitched together in Lightroom looking south and west.

Another pano looking west. Mosier is on the left, Columbia River in the middle, small town of Bingen WA in the distance. Across the river to the right, in Washington State, is a rock feature called Coyote Wall. It is a very popular hiking area.

A pano of the two panos. :)

A coupl Google Earth maps I made to show the approximate location of the hike.

Photos taken by me with a Nikon D3300 and CPL filter with some Lightroom post processing.

Thanks for looking and enjoy your day!

I can see why it is a popular area for hiking as it is truly beautiful. The scenery and the waterfall are fantastic. The panoramic photograph showing the river and the town is superb and really captures the beauty of the area. Thanks for sharing your day out.

You're welcome! Thank you for stopping by and leaving your thoughts. :)

Thank you and keep on hiking and taking great photographs.

Sure looks beautiful there @oldmans! Love all the different
photographs, the canyon with the boulder especially! :-)
Looks like a house there with a awesome view of those
falls. Nice to see all the wildflowers and greens!

I was pleasantly surprised by this hike. Usually I look for hikes in more wild type areas. This taught me not to overlook hikes that may be a little more rural. :)

Hello there @oldmans!

What a great hike you have had! The photos were wonderful. Well, anything of natures images are all breathtaking. It was such a nice view at the top too. And the panorama capture is just beautiful too.

Thanks for sharing your hike with us. Its so great to see the other wonders of the world especially to us who has no chance in touring the world.

Keep snapping wonderful memories. It is worth it in every click.

Cheers! ❤

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed my post.

I've come to realize there is a lot of the world I won't get to see in person. This platform has been great for me to see parts of the world I know I will probably never get to. I[m happy I have a place to share my little corner of the world with everyone that is interested. :)

You are most welcome.. yes! I agree its difficult to see the other side of the world unless you have all the resources.

Likewise, I share the same sentiments in having a glimpse of your world. Thanks!

That looks like an amazing place. I've never been to that part of the world, so this is obviously new to me and I'm really happy to see these photos. At least this is a way to "visit" the place if I can use that expression.
Those headstones are very interesting, have never seen such, although I've seen many because one of my steemian friends has a cemeteryphoto challenge. That is proof, it's a piece of history that needs to be protected at any cost. As I see, that's not a problem there, these stones are left there and nature is taking over, which is kind of cool :)
I agree with you, "life could be very short back then". They didn't have the life condition we have now, health care was non existent and doctors knew very little, and even if they knew what to do, maybe they didn't have what they needed.
Congratulations for the nice photos!

I think "visit" is an apt term. I like sharing my little slice of the world and also "visiting" other's little slices. :)

That cemetery photo challenge sounds interesting. I will have to look it up. There is a pioneer type cemetery (old and recent) near where I live that I have been meaning to get to and take some photos.

Thank you!

Please do! you can take photos and post them because this is not something unusual. It's interesting to see old graves from all over the world and new ones as well. My friend @melinda010100 is running the challenge.

The photos are greate @oldmans.
I like the pano photo where the river is in the middle. What a beautiful view from that spot. You must have enjoyed it :)

Thanks for sharing with us.

Resteeming and !Tip

You're welcome. I'm going to do one today myself. Let's hope it's going to be better received than the last one.

Ha! As long as we appreciate them, what does it matter, right? 😊

Last time I only got bot comments and an apix spam comment. 😐

I missed seeing it? I'm sorry!

Don't worry about it, I wasn't referring to you, I said that in general. Usually I see people are interested in it as it's really history. Maybe it was a busy day for everyone, or my timing was off.
No problem, better luck today 🙂
It's spring again, it's time to go to the cemetery again and explore the hidden parts of it, take another 100 photos to have them in case of posting.

My mom called today to get a day arranged when we can all go to the cemetery together.
If you can find the link for that post send it to me, I couldn't find it by looking under the tag. I'm off to bed I'll look for your post tomorrow when I wake up!

Thank you @melinda10100 and @erikah I will check out the challenge and see if I can find some things to add. :)

🎁 Hi @oldmans! You have received 0.1 STEEM tip from @melinda010100!

Sending tips with @tipU - how to guide :)

These are wonderful pictures! I live a little farther down the Columbia, about 40 miles from the coast. It's been a while since I've been in the gorge.

Thank you! The gorge is always a great place for scenery and hikes. :)

I pretty much grew up in Clark County until I moved away in 2014. A couple years north of the gorge in Trout Lake and now Central Oregon. Lots to see and photograph!
