Free Pictures With Birds, Anyone?

in #rant7 years ago (edited)

Anyone who has ever visited or lived in Crimea is very well aware of the bird/chinchilla/ferret/and what not scams that just happen to be so popular around here. The trick is a person with an animal tries to attract your attention to it and suggests you take a picture of it, saying it is either free or donation based.

Usually I never fall into those traps and just state it right away that I am not interested. This time however I thought it would be cool to just take a picture of a bird by itself, as soon as I did, the person holding the bird, started putting it on my wrist, on my shoulder encouraging me and my friends to take more shots.

Long story short, we ended up taking all kinds of pictures with the bird, all of us, in the end the person made us pay a set price for all of the photos taken. A price that never was announced, the entire time we thought we were taking pictures for free haha, SO DUMB! I have never felt so fooled before. Oh well.

Enjoy them birds!

Looking back however, I could probably just walk away and tell them that I don't have cash or whatever, maybe next time I will only say that I can pay in crypto? Who knows? Either way, if you ever happen to find yourself in Crimea and someone asks you if you want a picture with an animal for free, keep in mind you will have to pay.

At least the sky was nice!

EDIT: thanks for all the upvotes, looks like I made my money back :)

They just look like they have an ancient soul. Pure fuckin instinct.

Those birds are wacky as all get out!!!!

Hahaha a little bit!

There's nothing wackier than an all get out, that's for daaaaamn sure!

Similar thing happens in Paris: someone takes your wrist and starts to create a bracelet (a gift). And when they're done they ask money and become agressive if you don't pay :/

Damn! I would hate it if it happened to me!

That's why you should stay with the cat pictures hehe! Cambodians can be pretty resourceful scammers too. they tricked me a few time too... and one time I actually didn't had any money, which was a pretty funny. Lesson learned I guess.

At least they couldn't make profit from scamming you!

Hi Kotturinn, I am late to read your another unique and beautiful post because I was out of city today......I think that you are on the way to Detroit , but its good that you are still here in Crimea...So we can lean and know more about this beautiful city.... from great , beautiful and historical places now you are in the real social life of Crimea .... Which is very interesting .... The story of homes, streets, peoples, beaches, mountains, stones, plants, animal, deers, cows, cats and birds what’s happening over there, you are telling us the real images of the society .... which give us the fragrance of every corner of the Crimea .... and all of these we can only feel through your beautiful Articles....That you write for us....Cute and beautiful photograph of you, kotturinn... I wish I was on my way to Detroit, I hope I can go back home on time, I may have to stay here longer than I'd like to though.
Yeah the burden was stabbing me with its claws the whole time!

Some times we can't go according to our planning and schedule ... it was a challenging job that you put the bird with big claws on your wrist.... This type of scamming and other shortcuts of making quick money with trapping people is common in all over the world... Just their ways of scamming is different.... Here in my city if we don't ask for fare and rate before we travel on taxi or eating in a restaurant then taxi and restaurant will charge us very high some times in multiples ........... In Detroit our friends Lenorka, foota and Artax will be waiting for you.... Haha ..... because you love them very much...

finally you are trapped 😁 but the birds are very unique and friendly, good pictures comrades, I like it.

Thanks for sharing @kotturinn

I would still prefer it if people were straight up about it instead of being scammers.

agree, I read your writing with the help of google translate translation, for me your story is very interesting and I have never seen such bird in my area Aceh, Indonesia

I see! One of the birds is an owl, and the other one I don't remember the name of haha. I wonder if you can find those birds somewhere in the wilder areas of Indonesia.

many owls in Indonesia, if the other one, I have not seen it, it looks like I have to go into the vast forest to find it haha .. Indonesia has great forest and beautiful natural scenery, you can see in my latest post..
thank's @kotturinn

I will gladly check it out!

Looks kinda like a hawk!

Maybe it was one!

You're right @ matt-a, but what kind of hawk? I dont know. :)

I dunno, I wish I knew more about animals :-/.

animal eagles are interesting :), men who have a keen look like a hawk always appeal to women he he he

Well at least you got some pics for it. Here, people walk up to my parked car, wrap on the window and want money for nothing!

Hahahaha

Some good pictures I do like birds, only the other day I posted a picture of a sparrowhawk in my garden, cheers mike

Sparrows live all over the place. I often crumble some bread for them in my yard.

Sorry about this, sparrow and sparrowhawk are two different birds, cheers mike

Oh I see!

Really so dump that makes you feel fooled ... But you know now and we know too. The pictures are really nice anyway :)

I love the owl. ^^ The eyes look so cuuuuuute :D
