Mail.com: Email Service Provider

I signed up for a free email service at mail.com sometime early this year. I was using it for the purposes of corresponding with my social media friends only.

Yesterday, my account was blocked with the following message:

Dear mail.com member, our system has detected irregular activity related to your account. As a precautionary measure, we have blocked your account.

To regain access, please contact our Customer Support.

In their Customer Support Form, I was asked to answer questions regarding my last sign-in, the browsers I use, whether I access the account through mobile app, mobile webmailer, webclient, outlook and so forth.

A day later I got a response as follows:

We have forwarded your request to unblock your account to our security department and it was determined that the account in question will remain blocked.

Please note that this is a decision made by our abuse department and we do not have further information we can provide to you.

Wondering something amiss, I ventured to check reviews on mail.com at https://sitejabber.com and https://trustpilot.com.

Here is what I found:

https://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/mail.com

https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.mail.com

Horrible reviews to say the least.

And then I came across a glowing review of mail.com in this article https://www.technorms.com/14035/10-free-email-service-providers. This is an old article which was updated on 13th August 2019. Obviously the author has not done enough research before updating it. This just goes to show that we cannot just rely on review articles but need to check further with review sites for personal experience of users of the services or products.

Hi @devann, I use zoho and have had no issues. Very nice free email.

Thank you so much for the tweeting of my Air Asia review and all other support for my blog. I really appreciate everything, and I do truly love that airline. Hearing from Tony Fernandes would be a dream come true. I followed him now and already had Air Aisa in my connections.

Hi @fitinfun, Thanks for recommending zoho. Checked it. Looks good and would consider it if I need another email. Tony is known for surprising people and gifting them. That is why I tweeted him. I have also sent your post by Whatsapp to a staff of AirAsia.

Aw! Thank you so much for this help, @devann. Fingers crossed!

Dear @devann

Thanks for sharing your story. It's so very unfortunate that you've lost access to your own email. How long have you been using this provider?

Did you ever consider gmail? I've been using this one for many years and I'm very satisfied so far. They don't seem to be blocking accounts for no reason (not that I would hear about it).

ps. is there any way to DM you right now? Do you use Discord or Telegram?

Yours,
Piotr

Dear @crypto.piotr

I have been with them for about a year only. I use several emails, each for different use. Mail.com was for communication with my social media contacts only. As a replacement for mail.com, I have just signed up with protonmail.com and have sent you a message.

I wrote to mail.com and told them that I will be sharing the reviews referred to above with my 60k+ social media followers. After that they reinstated my account immediately but I don't feel safe to use it any longer.

I also wrote to technorms.com and they responded immediately promising to revise their article soon.
