I don't see what's the big deal here.
Sure, they bought it, sure they were selling bs to the public, but I thought that's common knowledge (and practice) - rich parents putting their kids in prestigious schools (and jobs). I'm more surprised that this specific case made the news.
Indeed, btb. It's common knowledge that the rich game the system. I suppose what's different about this case was how they didn't go the usual route of donating to the university directly but instead cheated and tried to make it look legitimate.
In doing so, what they did became illegal (fraud) but i suppose it also causes outrage because these rich kids raise the bar for everyone by cheating this way. Requiring good grades as well as a portfolio of community service and extra-curriculars leaves for very little down time and exploration of self-interests.
Lol, in any case i'm sure the billionaires won't face any penalties. The 'low level rich' hollywood actress might.
