There is some excellent logic behind this idea when you consider how much pressure AI puts on both electricity and cooling systems. Moving data centers off-shore and using wave energy and cold ocean water, can reduce land grid strain and save fresh water. In addition, it shows just how far technology will go to facilitate AI's growth.

However, it is still not easy in real life. First of all, the ocean is very unforgiving; maintenance of an off-shore site is difficult; and currently there are no connections using satellites that provide the same level of access as a fiber network could provide. Therefore, it feels like a very much in-the-early-stage experiment that may work well for high volume AI data processing, but not well for Average Real-time Services.
