This is a nice step towards more ecologically friendly shipping. The battery powered ferry 130 meters long can carry 2100 passengers and 225 cars. This shows that even large ships can use electric motors for shorter and more frequent routes. What interests me is the 40 MWh battery and its ability to be quickly charged. But the weight of the batteries, their charging and replacement infrastructure, costs, and range still present significant challenges. It will be interesting to see how Hull 096 performs in practice and what conclusions can be drawn from it for future electric ships.
