Good observations.
I think of sin as an immoral act. It is an extension of our humanity. All animals including humans indulge in acts which could be deemed sinful. But it is only us humans that commit a sin without necessity. Hence, sin and morality only apply to us humans in a way where the ends do not justify the means.
To be entirely honest, nothing is wrong or right. The only thing that matters is why. The ideology behind actions is what deems an act as moral or sinful.
The ends never justify the means. By definition. But, that is another post.
I do not consider sins an immoral act, but that is because we are using the word in two different ways.
Its like having a baby. 100 years ago it was really bad to be pregnant without having a husband. Very immoral. But, it was not, in my definition a sin.
I watch people cut themselves up all the time.
Is it right / wrong for them to cut themselves up?
Well, the modern concept of morality is more social than human. The question then exists: What is inhuman? For we are all but animals with big brains in the end.
