I am Alexander Peace and today as a curious explorer, I have explored a university. I wasn’t able to download the exploration card but I made something close. My card is shown in the picture above.

I had a time out exploring Lagos state university (Unilag) as it’s popularly known. Unilag is a very popular university in Lagos state. The biggest metropolitan state in my country and Unilag is the state high institution.

There are other high institutions like Yabatech, Lapotech, etc but Unilag is the most outstanding amongst all the universities in the state. It’s situated at a very strategic place along Akoka road, Yaba, Lagos state, Nigeria.

It’s a high institution and we know that it’s a place for learning for students of all classes and category. We have the students and lecturers and their different Faculties and facilities that make up the university. We shall explore these soonest.

I took a picture on the outside of the school. The school gate is not so magnificent, more like a simple structure with double ways for exits and entrance. There are security guards posted at the gates to give tags to the cars as they come and go and also check them once in a while.

I walked into the school and also took a picture to show my presence in the school. Now it’s time for my exploration to begin.

How were the activities, services and facilities at this place? (With pictures + prices, videos)

The school as of the time of my visit was still in full swing. There were students inside and outside. Some were entering the school just as I was and some were leaving the school environment. There were cars also driving in and out.

The neon advertising board

Immediately after the school gate by the left is a huge neon board that’s used for advertisement. People pay to get their products and services advertised on the board and it also serves as a means of raising money for the school.

Taxi and bus service stations

IMG_4425.jpegThe taxi terminal

Walking further inside by the left is a taxi service station where there are lined up taxis that carry people into the school and also being them out. The university is very big and have multiple extensions. You won’t be able to trek from one end to another hence students and everyone use the taxi services to convey themselves around school.

IMG_4447.jpegBus terminal

There are also electric bus services which also conveys students. The electric bus fare are actually very affordable and the students and staff use it often. I have happened to use it twice when I went to the school for a personal business. They were also organized and very fast.

Faculties

We all know that every high institution has courses they offer and these courses falls under faculties. There are so many faculties in the school such as the education faculty, social science, engineering, law, architecture, and etc.

These faculties are widely spread around the school and are quite a distance from each other. I explored 3 faculties.

Education faculty

Towards the right is the Education Faculty. It’s very large and comprises of different buildings and sections. This faculty is in charge of educational courses. Each of the buildings have lecture rooms and lecturers offices and car parks where you can park your car.

Faculty of social sciences

Walking further in is the social science faculty on the left. This is where the lecture rooms of the students offering social science courses are and their lecturers offices too. This is also a large building with a parking lot and you can see all manner of cars parked outside.

Faculty of Post graduate studies

Post graduate studies is the part of the school that takes care of advance studies that are not regular courses. Those who want to further their education falls under this faculty. It’s right beside the education faculty. It’s also has buildings and a large parking lot.

Event halls

IMG_4429.jpegomotola Hall

Unilag is known for its very big and massive event halls scattered all over the school. These event halls serve as means of revenue generation for the school. Outsiders use these halls to hold occasions such as weddings, child dedications, birthday parties and even political events and they pay the school.

Omotola hall is one of those event halls and they charge as high as #500,000, quivalent of 6,250 steem at the current steem price to use these halls. Some are lower in price and some are way higher. These halls aren’t free for the students either except for school authorized functions.

Banking services

IMG_4428.jpegWema bank

There are banking halls scattered at strategic points in the school. This is Wema bank. One of the popular banks in the country. These also have ATM services that operates 24/7 in the school to help the students access funds round the clock.

Sports facilities and gymnasium

The school has as large stadium where all manner is sports activities happen. The stadium has an indoor section, a huge building where indoor sports activities take place. They also have a football field and tracks for racing and outdoor activities.

There’s also a gym beside the sports facilities where people come to gym. There’s always one form of activity or the other going on in this sports environment. On this day there were some persons playing football on the field.

Religious facilities

IMG_4440.jpegchurch building

On walking further in on the left is a church building, a place of worship for Christians and also beside it is a mosque, a place of worship for Muslims. Everyone get the privilege to worship as they deem fit. These particular buildings are very prominent and there are other smaller version’s within.

Eateries and shops

Well, refreshment wasn’t left out of the work place. There are sections scattered all over the school for eating and shopping activities. Hawking is not allowed in the school. You have to go to designated locations to get food or other items of your choice.

Leisure and rest places

IMG_4431.jpegThe resting place

Just beside the taxi station is a garden where students can go to rest and hang out and in different angles of the school are also resting points where you can sit down and rest if exhausted from the days work. As you can see in the second picture, there was someone sitting down there.

The garden operates from 7am to 5pm after school hours. They do not allow entrance after 5pm. It’s a cool and serene place and you can see it right behind me in the first picture.

Good road network

IMG_4445.jpegGood road network
IMG_4442.jpegGood road network

The school actually has good road networks all across that makes for easy accessibility from one end of the school to the other. Every place is tarred and this makes navigation easy.

There are numerous other facilities such as a hostel, both public and private hostels where the students stay. Like I said if I were to give all the details, we will definitely sleep here. Hope the services and facilities I’ve explored so far has given you a vivid picture of what this work places looks like.

What is the main function or special service of this organization?

The main function of this work place is to render educational services of different types to people like every high institution or university does. It is a state university that houses students who come from all walks of life to obtain tertiary instruction certifications.

They also have postgraduate studies services for people who want to advance their education in different fields.

They also provide evening school services for people who work and want to school at the same time. The regular students have classes in the mornings while the evening students have their lectures in the evenings.

The also have DLI (Distant learning institute) that provides education to people who are full time workers or stay outside the state. They learn online and get to come to school once in a while. They are able to combine their work with school through the DLI.

They also have adult education for advanced members of the society or those who weren’t opportune to get educated when they were younger. You see a lot of advance individuals as a part of these educational group.

The university is a whole lot when it comes to the type of service of learning they render. Everyone has something which they can fit into as they want. They make the whole process of getting education a lot easier with their many service options.

Share your experiences of that place as a Curious Explorer.

As a curious explorer, I must say that it was a whole lot of experience for me to take in. I have visited this facility before but I haven’t really taken time to explore it like I did and this challenge gave me that opportunity.

It’s like discovering a whole new world where everything fits in. There are different options and services available for people to actually make their lives within the environment easier.

It’s a whole vibe of hustling and bustling from the gate down to the ends of the schools. Something seems to be happening at every junction as people students and none students alike are all busy going about their normal days.

It’s also felt refreshing that they had the mental health of the people at heart to building green places and rest places where people can actually take a break from their busy day and rest.

They had green trees at almost every facility and we all know how much green trees help to filter our environment and makes it conducive. It was a beautiful place to be in.

A world of its own and I must say the government tried to make it as comfy as can be for everyone who happens to be or would be a part of the workplace.

A YouTube video showing some parts of the beautiful work environment

I invite @ngozi996, @dequeen and @tammanna to participate in the challenge.
