Bustling Bangkok | Part 11 | Marble Temple

in Steem Sri Lanka2 months ago

During our vacation, we spent seven days in Bangkok. I’m going to split our time in Bangkok into multiple parts to cover a wide range of information about the places we visited, the modes of transportation we used, and the costs involved.

In this eleventh chapter, I’ll share our visit to the Marble Temple.

During our research, we found that there was another must-visit temple on the way, the Marble Temple. We had allocated one morning to visit this place.

The Marble Temple, also known as Wat Benchamabophit Dusitwanaram, is located about 14 minutes away from Wat Arun. We started our journey from our hotel, Season Siam, and it was a 13-minute ride by cab. We used the Bolt app to book a ride and reached the temple easily. It was around 9:00 a.m., and the place was almost empty. However, the sun was already shining brightly. I believe we could have arrived a bit earlier.

We had to take a ticket of about 100 Batht befor entering the place. All common dress code rules related to any other temple are applicable for this temple.

The temple was very calm and quiet. As I understood, there was a Bhikshu (monk) school or something similar on the other side. The temple is called the Marble Temple due to its marble courtyard and marble finishing.

The Ubosot Hall is a stunning piece of architecture, with a reddish roof and golden ornaments crafted in traditional Thai style. It’s also a very popular photo backdrop.

We spent some time admiring the Buddha statue collection there and felt the place was deeply peaceful. A pooja (religious ceremony) was taking place, and we joined in for a while, walking along with the devotees.

Unlike other temples we visited, this one had monks engaged in meditation and religious activities. I think this was my favorite temple we visited in Thailand it truly gave us a real sense of Buddhism over royalty.

The entrance to the Ubosot was closed at that time, but later I got a chance to peek inside.

This temple also had a Bodhi tree, and we spent some time sitting there peacefully. I highly recommend this temple if you’re looking for a moment of calm in bustling Bangkok!

Wow, @randulakoralage, this is another fantastic installment in your Bangkok series! The Marble Temple looks absolutely stunning, especially with the early morning light you captured in your photos. I appreciate the practical details you included, like the cost of the ticket and the tip about using the Bolt app for transportation – so helpful for anyone planning a visit!

It's interesting to hear that this temple stood out to you for its authentic sense of Buddhism, separate from the royal aspects often highlighted. The peaceful atmosphere and the opportunity to observe the monks' activities sound incredibly enriching. I'm adding Wat Benchamabophit Dusitwanaram to my list for when I finally make it to Bangkok. Thanks for sharing this serene escape with us! Have you visited other places where you felt a similar sense of peace and spirituality? I'd love to hear about them!
