Tech Blog #238 | Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold : Bold Move from Samsung...

Samsung has taken foldable phones to a completely new level with the Galaxy Z #TriFold. Instead of a single fold like the Galaxy Z Fold series or a flip-style like the Z Flip, Samsung has pushed the envelope with a three-panel tri-fold design that lets the phone expand into a large, tablet-like screen. It’s ambitious, bold, and clearly meant to show what’s possible when you don’t play it safe.

Closed, the Galaxy Z TriFold looks like a regular tall flagship with a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED cover display that feels familiar in the hand and good for typical phone tasks. Unfold it fully and you get a huge 10-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED main screen with a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and very high brightness levels. That’s cinema-level viewing in your pocket and makes multitasking and split-screen use far more practical than almost any other phone display out there.

Inside the TriFold is top-tier hardware. #Samsung chose the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset paired with 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of UFS 4.1 storage. That combo delivers flagship performance whether you’re gaming, editing video, or switching between multiple productivity apps. The phone runs Android 16 with One UI 8, optimised for its unique screen setup. You even get Samsung DeX built in so you can use the device like a desktop with multiple resizable windows.

One of the big talking points is software support. Samsung promises seven years of #Android updates and security patches, which is one of the longest commitments in the Android world right now. That means this weird and wonderful device is meant to stay relevant for years.

The camera setup borrows the system from the Galaxy Z Fold 7. You get a 200 MP main camera with OIS, a 12 MP ultrawide, and a 10 MP telephoto with 3× optical zoom on the back. On both the cover and inner displays there are 10 MP front cameras, so you can take selfies or join video calls whether the phone is folded or open. It’s not radically different from Samsung’s best existing cameras, but it’s strong across most real-world shooting scenarios.

Battery capacity is 5,600 mAh, the largest Samsung has ever put into a foldable, split across the three panels to keep weight balanced and endurance solid. Charging is 45 W wired and 15 W wireless, which isn’t the fastest you’ll find but still practical for daily use. Reverse wireless charging is there too for accessories.

That said, the Galaxy Z TriFold is not a light smartphone. It weighs around 309 g and, when folded, is thicker than most phones. Some reviewers and early users online have also raised durability concerns with the tri-fold hinge mechanism, showing real-world stress tests where the hinge and rear panel struggle with prolonged folding cycles. If durability is a top priority for you, that’s something worth thinking about before buying.

So what does this all add up to? The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is one of the most ambitious smartphones Samsung has ever made. It brings tablet-level screen space in a pocketable form, flagship performance, strong cameras, long-term software support, and advanced multitasking features. If you want an all-in-one device that can replace both your phone and a small tablet, this might be the closest you’ll get to that vision today. But it’s also bulky, expensive, and its complex folding design may not appeal to everyone. That’s just the reality of pushing the boundaries in a market that’s already full of bold ideas.
