SteemIt Uses Anonsteem For Account Creation?

Foreword: This post is not meant to be derogatory in anyway. I just noticed this occurrence and am curious as to the why, thus figured open discussion would be a proper course of action.

So you may notice that when @steemitblog makes a post, it get's a huge payout very quickly. If you take a look at the recent post about the new SteemIt logo, you might see this when you click the votes dropdown:

As you can see, there are some well known voters in the top of the list. This is to be expected because there are not a huge percentage of users that have such a large controlling stake of Steem. What is interesting to me are the accounts of trendings-grace and misterdelegation. These two accounts combined possess more than 6 Million Steem Power.

It is trivial to see via https://steemd.com that each of these users were created via @anonsteem service. A way to create accounts via a proxy account that is not the @steemit account.

Why would the creators of Steem(It) have a desire to use a 3p web-based software to create their own accounts? Is this not something they could easily accomplish using their existing systems? Unless there was some reason for a desire of anonymity (be it very trivially uncovered) for these accounts.

What do you think? Is there possibly shady practice involved around the anonymous nature of these account creations, or could it simply be that the use of anonsteem was just easier for someone at SteemIt to use instead of Vessel or another method that would allow them to be the recovery-account on the newly created user?

PS: Anonsteem by @someguy123 is a legit service and there is no real problem with the use of it. In fact, it is the fastest way for a user without an existing Steem account to obtain one.

I am no Dev or Programmer but i might say they just want to try the services out and maybe make it an official alternatives to the long Signup processes.

Just a minnow Guess!

Very insightful and true investigative journalism. Thank you for delivering.

  • maybe (and by that i mean a very speculative maybe) that is the reason behind 2d STEEM price drop?

Looks like @misterdelegation is an account they setup to be able to delegate some of the dormant SP they have. Not sure what the other account is, maybe just an account for them to help raise visibility on their own posts?

I'm going to bet both of these accounts are primarily existing for extra security within the organization.

  • steemit account (highest security) - account gets locked down, absolute cold storage
  • delegate account (high security) - is powered up and a select few people have access to delegate from,
  • promotion account (low security) - receives a delegation, and a different set of people have access to this account

Seems like a smart move!

Just figured using an in-house account (one other than steemit if you want split security), to perform the account creation would be wisest since that account would be the recovery-account.

I haven't had to utilize the recover-account so maybe there is a way to change it that I haven't ran into yet. Still seems a little interesting. Makes it where the relation to SteemIt is assumed but not known as fact.

I understand the use of the multiple accounts, though. It is indeed added security.

Hmmm, no idea... I should try to get some delegation now from Ned lol

Toss some my way!
