Smudge might just need a little more time to warm up to the new cat post. Out of curiosity, how much does Smudge weigh?
I always worry about things toppling over. I actually have a ceiling-height cat tree, and I’m constantly obsessed with testing, tugging, and re-securing it just in case it falls. At the same time, I’m looking into buying a lower post like yours, but I keep imagining all the ways my 'Godzilla cat' could potentially knock it over! I’m trying to figure out the safest place to position it to prevent any accidents.
I think the cat tree is too small for him. smudge would weigh i think 4 to 5 kg.

Mine is about 4 or 5 kg, too. She has broken so many things that I’ve had to 'Godzilla-proof' my entire house. I actually used to put a kettlebell at the base of my last cat tree! It was ceiling-height, so maybe I was worrying too much. This time, I didn't use the kettlebell, but I'm constantly checking the tree and tightening the bolts.
