Facebook Just Helped Steemit With New Rule

in #steemit6 years ago

Facebook announced a new rule and in doing so, they might have helped out Steemit a lot. This could be big. Mark Zuck announced that Facebook will no longer run ads for Bitcoin or an ICO. Basically banning any crypto ad from it's advertising platform.

When you first look at this, it seems like this could be bad. The masses are on Facebook and now they are not going to learn about all the ICOs and different crypto offers. Banning crypto on Facebook is going to be bad... right?

I'm not sure. I'm looking at it like this.

There are a lot of scams out there and Facebook is trying to avoid those, and I get that, but they are also cutting out all the legitimate stuff in crypto too.

As the popularity of crypto goes up, people will now be leaving Facebook to find that information. If people start searching crypto, they will come across Steemit quickly. Especially with so many quality articles being published daily.

To me, Facebook is solidifying its self in the past. By ignoring crypto as a whole and all of the blockchain technology, then they are going to lose even more of the younger, forward thinking people in the world. Those people will gravitate to Steemit hopefully.

Facebook banning ads for crypto isn't a bad thing in the long run for Steemit. Well, at least that is how I see it. I might be slightly biased, but still think I'm right. lol

What do you think? Is Facebook banning crypto ads a good thing or a bad thing?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Thanks for reading.

Facebook banning crypto ads is a good thing because most of the people on there have no idea about what it is and how not to get suckered. But, Facebook doing something like that is also very hypocritical, as they manipulate people everyday for so many reasons. That's why I hate that platform and love this one. :)

I like your thoughts! I agree 100%. I'm betting they are working on their own crypto reward system.

I didn't even think of that. But it wouldn't be surprising. I think Facebook is trying to turn into a Google of their own. It's not good for one company to have that kind of power, but I guess that's what happens with capitalism...

Capitalism would work better if government didn't make secret agreements with businesses like google and facebook to allow spying and data collection. Facebook and google are in a lot of non-capitalist countries too. I do think they want a currency of their own where users can tip from other countries on content they like. Kind of like the Reddcoin idea

Probably. Wherever they can cash in and make sure everyone is 'safe.' Sucks when you can't trust the people who are in control and are supposed to have your best interests at heart... sigh

ain't that the truth. That's why I like the decentralized network. lol

Amen to that. So curious and excited where blockchain takes us, and this platform :)

Finally I got tired of seeing the same ads over and over. I think Facebook taking off the ads is somewhat bad. Less media attention for new comers to hope on to the crypto world. The audience might be limited to only word of month mainly. Ads online is a good conversation starter.

Simple - he sees Steemit as a threat to Facebook domination, and the cryptocurrency revolution in general threatens Facebook as people will drift away to get rewarded for what they write...

I think that could be a part of it too. You got a new follower.

facebook is just a bunch of nazis anyway. i only get on there anymore when i am out of bandwidth over here. ( shich seems to be a lot lately).

we have been wondering what will be the catalyst for facebook becoming myspace. this might just be it.

I 100% agree, Facebook monetizes people's attention. Steemit rewards people's effort and attention. Facebook is refusing to evolve into this new trend, it will be at their detriment.

@walkingkeys your perspective is spot on...and in fact I think you were in my head when I wrote on a similar topic earlier this week and a post earlier today on whether Facebook is already failing! Enjoy it here: https://steemit.com/news/@fifebanks/dear-mark-is-facebook-failing-4d8ec67f40ab6
