The 2005 Australian Kookaburra 1oz Silver Coin, struck by the Perth Mint, is a highly sought-after piece in one of the world's longest-running silver bullion series. Struck in .999 fine silver, this legal tender coin has a face value of $1 AUD.

It is particularly noted for its relatively low mintage of 95,145 coins, making it more collectable than many other years in the series.

The 2005 edition features a unique reverse design that distinguishes it from other years in the series:

  • Reverse Side: Depicts a kookaburra perched on a tree branch, designed by Sarah Anderson. A distinctive aesthetic feature of this year is the fully frosted field against which the central bird is silhouetted.
  • Obverse Side: Features the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, also presented within a frosted section.
  • Physical Specs: The coin weighs exactly 1 troy ounce (31.10g) with a diameter of 40.60 mm and a thickness of approximately 4 mm.

The combination of the annual design change and the limited production numbers for 1oz coins generally gives this series a higher collectible value compared to standard bullion coins like the Silver Eagle or Maple Leaf.
