SteemUSA Game Time: Introduce Yourself...a Little Deeper Look
I think many will agree with me that the biggest value in Steemit is the people on here. Over the last 7 months or so of being on here, I have met some truly wonderful people that I am happy to consider friends! Though I love seeing all of the fantastic recipes, killer workouts and stunning photography (among other topics), it is really interesting to see when my favorite folks share a little bit deeper about their passions and personalities. That's my goal for today--to let you see a little different side of myself. I hope I am pretty transparent in my writing, but we'll see if you can learn something a little new about me today.
I'll start off a little more superficial, then see if we can't peel off the layers bit by bit. ;) You may have seen a few peeking out in some of my pictures, but you might not have guessed how many tattoos I have. If you count them all separately I have 9, though 6 of them are in pairs. I like symmetry, haha! Most of them represent my bond with family or major turning points in my life. The last one I got about 3 1/2 years ago to mark my shift in lifestyle to a whole foods plant-based way of eating. I am lucky enough to have a dear friend of the family who does all of my work for me, so it makes each one even more special. I have also had a few friends help design some of them. My dear @dksart actually did the initial design for my friend here.
Can you pick out the individual components? ;) This was quite the test of my pain endurance as it took about 4 hours from start to finish. I have another one on my ribs that would be a toss up between the two which was more painful. They can be quite addicting, though so it is probably a good thing my artist lives in another state! Some day I will get one for my niece. I have my parents and sisters represented, so I can't leave another piece of my heart off.
Speaking of family, I am one of three girls (we adopted our dear German friend on the left as the fourth sister quite some time ago, my sweet little mamma to the right). Any guesses where I fall in the birth order? If you guessed middle then you'd be correct. I actually do exhibit some of the stereotypical traits of a middle child. I tend to be the peacekeeper as I hate conflict. Drama is something I try to avoid as much as possible as it really stresses me out. I also tend not to like the spotlight.
Nope, that definitely would never be me up on stage. Continuing with the family theme, a large portion of the concerts I have ever been to included my dad and/or sister. I took my dad to see the band Primus for his 50th birthday back in 2004, and we have hardly missed them since. It was probably the best gift I have ever given him as it was really one of the first outings I took with him after reaching adulthood and we had a blast. This picture was from a concert last summer that I went to with @dksart and my sister. Incubus, Judah & the Lion, and my absolute favorite band Jimmy Eat World. I do love a good mix of music, but tend to gravitate toward alternative, Indie, the lighter side of punk, and I was totally a girl from the grunge era (my first rock star crush was Chris Cornell, may he rest in peace). I don't have a musical bone in my body, though, so I will gladly listen and sway back and forth if I'm really feeling it. ;)
On to my "extended" family. I am a true introvert (ISFJ for any fans of the Myers-Briggs), so it takes a little bit for me to open up when I'm meeting new people. However, once you are in my circle, you'll have a friend for life. I'm fiercely loyal to my small group of guys and gals. Friendships are definitely an area I prefer quality over quantity. These ladies are the best exports from Poland, Germany and Brazil. ;) I think that is part of the reason why I prefer doing one-on-one personal training versus groups (though I do teach some classes), it appeals to my desire to really get to know someone beyond the superficial. Appropriately, the majority of my clients are also introverts.
I am blessed to have quite a few friends that are so close I am called "aunt" by more than just my one niece. It is a beautiful thing to see some of my best girlfriends become mothers. However, I have no children of my own. Nor do I want any. That is a topic I may explore in a later post because I feel my experience may be helpful to someone else. Though I know I have not had the terrible prejudices or horrific bullying that many people living alternative lifestyles receive, I have still gotten a lot of criticism and questions about what is wrong with me that I don't want my own children. Motherhood is something everyone seems to have an opinion about, and I'm sure I have been insensitive at times, myself. I have never had that instinct or desire to be a mother. For years I questioned it and felt like something was wrong with me. There's not. I know that now. I will just try to leave my legacy on this planet in a different way. :)
Whew, that got a little deep. Maybe we should end with something a little lighter? I adore Cirque du Soleil! I am a pretty frugal person, but any time one of the shows comes to Atlanta, I will fork out good money to go. The performers are some of the most stunning athletes I've ever seen, the music can be otherworldly, and the sets, costumes and makeup reveal the depth of the artistic talent and workmanship of the whole production. Perhaps some day I'll get to see a few in other cities.
I hope my pals on here enjoyed getting to know me a little better, or those of you who didn't know me at all may want to check out my other contributions to the Steemit blockchain. I hope some other of the @steemusa folks join in so I can learn a little more about you all, as well!

Lovely post.
Thank you!
Excellent post @plantstoplanks!! I'm in the middle of nine siblings and I feel the exact same way! Love that tattoo design btw!! 😊
Oh wow! That's great! I bet having that many siblings made for some interesting stories. And thank you for the compliment on my little owl friend. I was really happy how that one came out. 😊
Very good to get to know you. And, thanks for the reminder of this :)
Thanks for the support! I don't always get a chance to be active in the team discord server, so it's nice to join in with the challenges to connect with everyone when I can. 😀
Thanks for the peek into YOU! I once got drunk enough I was going to get a tattoo... On a business trip. of us went in. We were all fairly attractive females, clearly drunk and obviously had some money. While we patiently waited to get ours done, an even more drunk man stumbled in. He blew past us all, went to the "workking" artist and said "How much for 3 initials across my upper arm, one color, about 2 inches tall?"
OK, I had picked out a lovely fairy for my ankle, at least 6 colors, it was gorgeous. I had no idea what it would cost, I have never had a tattoo... In retrospect, I think the artist was trying to run that guy off, he had a parlor full of drunk women who did not even ask about prices, ya' know? But when he told the guy "$400" we all sobered up REAL FAST and staggered on out of there... lol!
The mom thing - sorry people are dicks, about anything. My only comment is it makes me sad when the smart, sensitive people do not procreate - the idiots will outnumber us soon enough!!! LOL!
That made for quite a story! I would be willing to bet you were right about him trying to chase that guy off. :) I have to admit that I'm a little bit spoiled in that I've never had to pay for a tattoo. Last time I checked the average going rate is about $100/hour, though it could be more or less depending upon the skill of the artist.
I have heard that comment before about it being more thoughtful women in general who are the ones not to have children, so I take that one as a compliment. My thought on that is that while I may not replicate any portion of my DNA, I have more time to give to help mentor other young ones to hopefully help make them better people. ;)
A perfectly wise and reasonable choice! Cheers!
What a wonderful in-depth post! I enjoy reading it so to know more about you, and I must say that I admire your decision not to have children! I never thought that I have that option! As long as you are happy with yourself, forget all the chatters!
Thank you Icy! I don't think for many of us it is even talked about that is an option, so I feel the need to help spread the word. Motherhood is the most beautiful thing, but for some of us it's not the right thing. And what many people neglect to think about is that some women's bodies physically cannot have babies. I'm blessed to have so many beautiful little ones around me I never feel like I'm missing out on anything!
Oh what a lovely post you made here, I really enjoy reading it and it is great to get to know you a little better Katie! I also love Cirque du Soleil! I have only seen videos from their performances though, but hope to see them live one day! Also I think what you write about motherhood is interesting, I read about someone else that sayes exactly the same! I think the norm is that women should want to have children, but we really need to question that. So many women (and men) are having children without actually wanting to become a mother/father. We should feel free to follow our hearts and make the decisions that we comfortable with.
That's also why the right for short is so important. No-one should be forced to do something they don't want. A child truly changes the whole life.
And as a perent you are responsible. I am happy you could make a decision that is right for you, and I hope many more women can do the same.
As I was younger I didn't want to have children as well, but than someday I changed my mind. Can't tell exactly what happens though...
Hope to read more personal posts from you sweetheart!❤❤❤
Oh you have to see Cirque live!! It is so magical. Words can't do it justice! I have been maybe 15 times and each one is unique. I never regret going!
Thank you for such a wonderful response. I agree with you that we all need to search our hearts for what is right for each of us. And to know we can change our minds if we want to. There's just so much judgement that goes around--especially amongst women! I'm happy to see such a welcoming group of ladies on here. Makes it easier to open up and reveal a little more when the whim strikes. 😀
Yes this community is wonderful! I also appriciate it so much! Thank you Katie❤❤❤
Omg! We have so many things in common! This is so crazy that I have goose bumps all over!!!
I am in a middle of four girls too,
I am the peace maker,
I am kind of introverted,
I am Vegan,
I love cirque du Soleil,
And I have no human kids, ( yes I had received so much criticism and questioning in the past that I don’t even want to think about it)
Excellent post dear!!
No way!!! We must have been separated at birth!! Are you going to do a post for this, too?
Hmm I don’t know yet! Maybe we were sisters in another life!
Well I'm spuddies with @woman-onthe-wing due to our mutual love of potatoes, so maybe we're soul sisters! 😉
Why not! 💗🌸🌺
So glad to receive a glimpse into your life! It sounds like you have a very full and rich group of family and friends. Also being a middle child, peacekeeper and introvert, its probably why we like running as well right? I think that is why Steemit is such a great platform for us lol. Great post!
Yes! I think that's why though I enjoy running with a partner sometimes, I also always feel like I need solo runs to recharge, too. And I agree about Steemit being a great platform for us I's. I feel like I can interact on my level, and pull away for a bit if I need to. 😀
This is wicked awesome, @plantstoplanks! I'm jealous of all your ink (who knows, maybe steemit will eventually pay for my first tat - LOL), and I think it would be an excellent idea to do a post about your child-free choice. Our youngest (who is just about to turn 18) has already decided she only wants to be an auntie, and my mother is already giving her grief about it! I think spreading the word would definitely be helpful.
Really enjoyed getting to know you!
Thanks for stopping by! I will definitely write up that post once all my thoughts are fully formed. Interestingly enough, it's the wonderful male role models I've had that have been so supportive of my choice to be a perpetual auntie. I think that's part of why I want to write about it--to give a little feminine support for the other ladies out there who may need it!
I hope you get some rad ink some day, too! 😉 I love that challenges like this let us get to know each other better!
You're very welcome! Thanks so much, and I agree! 😊
welldone !
Thanks.
