Ouch, I can imagine the pain. I lost my toe nail due to longboarding before.
Anyway, you don't have to leave if you are happy there. Phuket can be touristy but it is nice. There are some countries closer to Thailand you can visit too...

I am not even sure how it happens but I dont enjoy the missing toe nail. It was getting better but I just got stuck at soemthing and it hurts again.
I enjoy living here for now a lot because I also have a purpose for being here which is training and probably I am bit frustrated atm. But it will pass
The most important thing is to have a purpose to stay in a place.
