Wat Ku, an ancient temple in Nonthaburi province that you must visit at least once
Referring to my several posts, as far as I know from one of the monks in Wat Ku, the abbot of Wat Ku used to be an engineer. Therefore, most of the buildings in Wat Ku were built with awesome, modern and unique designs and were constructed beautifully.
Especially the quarter of the abbot, the whole building is magnificent and was built in white color. It’s one of the most outstanding buildings in Wat Ku.
In the front of the quarter of the abbot, there are golden statues of our beloved King Rama V and his majesty Queen Sunantha Kumaree Rattana and their daughter surrounded with many beautiful white and pink roses. (as mentioned in my old post, pink rose is the King Rama V’s favorite color)
In addition, the quarter of the monks in Wat Ku is totally different from the ones in other temples. (it’s located next to the quarter of the abbot.) It’s a wooden quarter with a Thai style, especially the roofs.
There are many rooms for the monks to stay together on the second floor of the quarter.
The building is so marvelous that I thought this building was used for Buddhist religious ceremonies until I talked with the monk.
The most important building at Wat Ku is Phra Viharn, which features a simple yet striking modern architectural style, with the entire building painted white.
The principal Buddha statue (the large one) inside Phra Viharn is Luang Pho Samret, a pure white Buddha statue in the posture of warding off evil spirits. It’s believed that one wish can be made upon praying to him. You will see from the far distance a small Buddha statue of Luang Pho Samret in front of Phra Viharn.
The pagoda in Wat Ku is also built in white with Mon-style.
It seems that every single things in Wat Ku can attract my eyes; i.e.
cute sculptures with the signs in Thai words meaning good things like money, rich, etc.
awesome sculptures of hens….
lovely sculpture of an elephant…
a big sculpture of a black horse and a small sculpture of a zebra….
charming sculpture of a white rat…
a giant monk's alms bowl with lotus flowers….
a huge black Kong….
colorful candles in lotus shape floating on the water….
You can see from my several posts and this post that Wat Ku is a large ancient temple which has a long history, offers a pleasant atmosphere and clean compound.
I highly recommend you to visit Wat Ku at least once. You will experience complete peace of both body and mind, for sure.
