Wat Ku (Wat Phra Nang Ruea Lom), an ancient temple in Nonthaburi province
Wat Ku is well-known as Wat Phra Nang Ruea Lom (Temple of the Shipwrecked Queen). It is an ancient temple which is situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Nonthaburi province. (as mentioned in my previous post) This temple holds significant historical importance; i.e. it is associated with a significant historical event: the sinking of the royal barge of Queen Sunantha Kumaree Rattana. (she was the Queen of our beloved ancient King Rama V.)
Within the temple grounds, a shrine dedicated to the Queen who perished in the barge sinking has been built as a memorial and a place for Buddhists to pay their respects.
It is said that the royal barge of the queen was salvaged right where the temple is located, hence the name Wat Ku (meaning "Salvage Temple").
You will see the ancient royal barge located next to the shrine of the Queen. We believe the royal barge of the Queen is sacred and worship it with flower garland and some beautiful ancient Thai dress.
