[TV Profile] Channel Zero
Channel Zero is an underrated horror anthology series that airs on SyFy, where each season is one story (rather than each episode) which is based on a creepypasta. For those who don't know, a creepypasta is an online myth or legend that get copy-and-pasted around the internet, often with the intention of scaring the reader. One popular creepypasta is Slenderman, which has inspired real-life murders and soon a motion-picture.
It began airing back in autumn 2016, with the first season being centered around the Candle Cove creepypasta, which was created by Kris Straub in 2009. I've never really read many creepypasta stories, many come across as a bit cheesey to me, but Candle Cove captured my imagination. The story revolves around a fictional kids tv show called Candle Cove that was only watchable by and known to a small group of children, who recalled the show on a web forum. I'm always recalling vague memories, barely snippets, of tv shows I'll have seen as a kid, but don't have enough information to look it up. There was something about this story that really stuck with me, so I was excited when I heard about it becoming a TV story.
The thing about Channel Zero, is that it's very well crafted. They take the core theme, so for the first season Candle Cove, and then create a twisted narrative around it. I won't ruin anything for you, as I strongly recommend you go watch it. I often find with SyFy productions that they can come across a bit cheap, low budget. Not with Channel Zero. It's very polished, well acted and shot nicely. I've been a fan of American Horror Story since it began airing, but Channel Zero is probably a superior product.
The second season is based on a story called The No-End House, which isn't a creepypasta I'm familiar with, but both @Calluna and myself thoroughly enjoyed it. The third season started airing on 7th February 2018, and is based on a creepypasta called Search and Rescue Woods, which again isn't one I've read. We're only two episodes in, but already you're drawn in and captivated by the bizarre events unfolding on the screen. If you aren't already, get Channel Zero queued up for watching as soon as you can.
