Clearing out my Demo Backlog : MS-DOS is not dead punk yet

well, since 2020 id say all of demoland has undergone a downward trend on average, just like the rest of the world , there's symmetry. Assembly gave up on the demos a while ago i think but definitely not on the big event (and moneymaking with the sponsors and the tickets party), its a bit of LAN party too i think and they gots lots of sponsors giving prizes and what not, they also have two a year ...
It's not revision qua prestige (dont ask me why, these things grew over the years, but it could be possible that germany is simply more central than finland)
So the guys aiming for meteoriks usually release on Revision and the average QoD-factor on assembly tends to be just a bit lower ... that doesnt mean there is no good ones
(although i fear for the scene within 10-15 years ... if not faster)
I saw here two that made me go OMG if i seen this on my first two PC's id fell flat over backwards in my chair and bump my head, got up and thought id saw shiney stars because i bumped my head and the next day turn it on again because i would never have seen this on a pentium 60 running MS-DOS

Desire is a name i know from the csdb scene but it doesnt really ring a bell thinking back at intros the kid saw back then ... tho a lot of names from back then that were frequent arent around anymore, BROS, IKARI, ACS, HTL ... and others , i guess it depended on who had the modem and the node there would have connection to several groups around the globe from there. Mindlapse is a new name to me

As the kid , very first there was a VCS2600 so weve been gaming since Ataripaddles and thats probably why AI generated photorealistic crap most of the time doesnt hit it off ... then there was the c64, one of the old mans friends must have talked him into it but it just stood there and he never touched it,
BUT THE KID DID ... and was fairly good with that stuff, which brings us to the point once more that

Then when that broke the boy was allowed to buy an ST from one of the old mans friends with his savings .. an STf more like it had this blitter button on it , after that broke there was an STE (all bought myself btw , this is Sparta) ... i think the boy was somewhere between 12 and 14 when he rented a P.o. box and put ads in a secondhand to sell floppies that got sent from holland ... strange how you could get a beer, a pack of fags and rent a po box at the age of 14 back then ...

Then ... there was the Atari Jaguar which got in my head from reading EDGE magazine while working nightshifts at Tupperware ( ... yea well, computers aint working and you need a UNI degree for that !)
and then after playing warlords II at a friends house on his old mans 486 we bought the first pentium 60 ... it cost 50.000 francs which is about 110% of what i made doing nightshifts ...
from there it was all pc until covid
then there was a c64 .. original 6581, unrefurbished in pristine state, two Atari STE's which now make for one fully working one, a mister FPGA and a second c64, refurbished so i dont have to be afraid to turn it on ...
around then we started programming again because there wasnt much life left, tho we didnt REALLY stop, simple shit like websites and php have been a constant timekiller
and now there is no money ... its a bit of a question mark how to do this as those knees certainly wont get better and one of them has already officially torn meniscus so it will need operating at some time, but we got this infection around the eye that keeps coming back for which we will try to get a nose-ear-throat-(eye) specialist next month and in case they can fix that by removing a little thing (i used to know someone who had this TINY little thing on the inside and she had the exact same symptoms)
there's actually not even money for that operation ... and in january €0/month ... with fatigue thats classified as "doesnt exist" and osteo-arthritis making this body 30 years ahead, classified as "a little pain" ... somehow i just can't seem to STOP THE ACT and it keeps pretending that its real to me
so ... crypto wont do it, the americans made sure of it, bank robbery is too hard these days so we are considering kidnapping someones kid ( ... okay dont send Interpol yet heh ..) for lack of options
that said, we TOLDYA (once, because our religion doesnt allow repeated toldya, threats, gloating or boasting) these mundanes wouldnt understand the Catham Joker and mistake the smile for having lol
while its in fact a total lack of give a fuck
I dont see a solution unless i can write a game that nets a few 100k ... in five years or so, during off hours when im lying down and am awake

... DOS ... we're talking about the days of DOOM, Hexen, Heretic, Spite, Strife, Peter Molyneux, Wipeout and the likes here
looking at these demos ... one of them should run on a 486, i wanna test it on the mister fpga core but the AO486 needs me to inject the file into a .vhd (virtual hard drive image) and atm theres not much spare motivation for follies and shenanigans

i probably woulda thunk someone cabled the television and a VHS to the screen or something and started lifting the monitor looking for the cable
