My son's first car... Seriously, where DOES the time go?! ♥
Guys. My husband always said he would NEVER, ever buy our kids a car. They would have to save up and buy one themselves.
Guess who brought THIS home for our oldest son last week? Yup. That guy.
This is a Honda Prelude, and it is my son's early birthday present. My husband is going to help him fix it up and paint it and make it awesome. A lot of learning to be done here. Learning to drive a stick, for one. (This is actually MY department, since I can drive standard, and my husband can't.) Learning to tune up an engine. Learn to replace parts, (no, I don't remember which parts... that WASN'T my department, haha!) Learning how to paint a car. Learning just how expensive car upkeep and insurance really is.
My son is super excited, of course! Who wouldn't be?! We are doing driving lessons daily, and when he gets his license this fall, he will be quite ready.
I definitely want him prepared, knowledgeable, and SAFE on the road. I cannot believe we are at this stage already! My baby is growing up and for the life of me, I can't figure out where the time has gone... This is bittersweet, indeed.
Time just keeps on slipping by... nothing we can do about it. These kids are grown up and gone in the blink of an eye, it seems...
Seems I've gone and put myself into a melancholy mood, haha. What on earth... At any rate, thanks for reading! I hope you all have a wonderful day! ♥

Who else but us parents always say one thing and do another. She is a beauty by the way. Hope your son doesn’t forget to spend time with you guys now that he has a new girlfriend 😬
Haha! He'd better still have time for us! I am looking forward to being chauffeured around once he gets his license, haha!
That car looks really nice. I can't wait to see it when ya'll are done with it! Hondas are great cars from what I hear.. Super exciting!
Thanks!
I've never really been a Honda fan before, but this thing is fun to drive! I like it more and more...
haha! They say they're super fun! My friend in Colorado have one, and my cousin does too. But he was a little wild with his. Always racing it and drifting... smh.. lol
Haha, I'd better not catch him doing that crazy nonsense!
Ive always liked muscle cars, myself, but this thing is zippy and fun, so I dont mind that it's not a mustang... ;)
Not that it matters what I would have preferred, haha! Its not mine...
haha! Sorry to giggle! That would be one conversation I wouldn't want to be around when getting caught doing a no-no. lol I'm sure he'll be a smart kid though and avoid that route..
I've always wanted a mustang since I was tiny girl, but I keep hearing all the recalls on Fords.. and I'm not sure one would like me after all the hard times I gave my second momma about her Ford. lol.
Ah! I am glad this moment is still so far away for us but I am sure it will still creep up faster than I suspect.
My husband says the same thing about not buying our kids a car. I am interested to see if he sticks to his resolve.
My parents made me take my driver's training in a standard. Their reasoning was that if ever there was an emergency and the only car available was a standard, I wouldn't be stuck. Sound logic and it came in handy more than once. I can't say I'm the smoothest shifter but I can get myself from point A to point B.
I hope you share the progress! -Aimee
Haha! I took my test in a standard as well! ALMOST failed when I had to stop and parallel park ON AN INCLINE, and the truck coasted back and almost knocked down one of the cones. It had a pole sticking up and the pole was caught in my mirror, haha! I stopped and looked at the teacher, at a loss of what to do, since if I knocked down a cone it was an automatic fail. He said, go ahead and try. Boy, I revved that thing so it wouldnt go back any further and by some miracle, made it up the hill, haha!
Ha ha ha! That's sheer will! I actually took my test in an automatic and my lessons in a standard. I remember my last lesson felt exhausting. I was trying to parallel park and I kept stalling. The harder I tried, the more I stalled. My instructor looked at me and said, "you're taking your test in an automatic right? Because otherwise you're going to fail." It was an off day and hearing that was so discouraging. -Aimee
Oh wow, haha, well at least he was honest. Harsh, but honest. At least you can look back and laugh, right? ;)
Oh yeah. I can definitely laugh about it now. It was harsh but honest. And in the real world, if you stall while parallel parking you just start your car and try again, right? I even have a different outlook on exams now too. -Aimee
Absolutely! :D
Aww so sweet! They can have father son bonding time fixing it up hehe..that car looks pretty good! How old is your son?
Thanks!
Yes! They are going to have a great time together, and he will for sure learn some things!
He is 14, turns 15 in a couple months, which is when they can get their learners permit. A little younger than expected to get a first car, BUT my husband found a great deal from a friend he trusted, so we know the car is reliable.
wow thats young!
we don't get to have a learners permit till 16 here!
I thought so too! I grew up in Ohio, and they allow you to get the learners permit at 15 and a half, but when I found out here it was only 15, I was surprised! At 16 he can have a restricted license, (only driving during certain hours), and at 18 he gets the full drivers license.
That's a pretty cool car for a learner. I can imagine his excitement! I always thought that I would make my son save money and buy his own car (though we are about 12-13 years away from that moment), but who knows? Maybe I'll change my mind? Time will tell.
Thanks, I thought so too!
Time will tell for sure...
Haha!
