This undermines the entire design of community delegated block production and frankly scares me a bit to think that it's now a thing that anyone can just buy themselves a witness rank.. :/
This is the reason behind my flagging, it's nothing personal but I certainly don't see this service as a "good" thing, it really opens up doors for the DPOS system to end up a "pay2win" situation.

Some truth to that, you need to build alliances to advance, for sure.
A lone witness would have a much harder or impossible time, but their "level of difficulty" would be inversely proportional to their "stake", in becoming a bigger witness. Just my 2¢
