Alliance for Biodiversity Conservation
Knowledge and protection of Nature… what great ideals! In order to hope for the success of naturalistic, ecological actions in the 21st century society, it is vital to increase the presence in the virtual space, to create and maintain attractive and relevant information flows. There are people who have an understanding of the natural realities in the field, people specialized in various topics related to biological diversity research, from ornithologists concerned with birds, to herpetologists studying amphibians and reptiles, chiropterologists analyzing bats, entomologists specializing in different groups of insects, botanists, ecologists (limnologists concerned with water, people interested in the ecology of steppes, forests), cavers concerned with caves and so on… the list can go on.
There are academics who try to transfer to students what is needed to develop a thinking of biologist, ecologist, to start in some direction of specialization. There are also various people with concerns in protecting smaller or larger protected areas. The diversity of approaches is great, and the common promotion of the results of these concerns is essential to be successful in the current media and social reality. A coherent and flourishing community in the virtual space, able to communicate important ideas, a community resulting from the cooperation of these people, non-governmental organizations, research institutions, universities, is for the benefit of all those involved, as well as Nature… also human society in general.
In order to develop a personal blog to see the results… with hundreds of thousands of hits per year, a fairly substantial part of the time must be allocated for this purpose: to create images and texts. A greater power can have the synergistic action of several naturalists, intellectually performing ecologists. In addition to contributing interesting materials to make visible individual activity or non-governmental organizations, research institutes, universities, etc., jointly promoting a synergistic blog with links to specialized websites, is a unique opportunity for the idea of biodiversity conservation, a chance that can't be compared to anything else.
People who have serious concerns in the field of knowledge and protection of biodiversity, sustainable development and all related topics, can produce the information needed to strengthen public support for biodiversity conservation. Make known the results of decades of work in the field, in libraries and laboratories, personal ideas resulting from decades of work on topics, analyze cases where Nature is degraded or examples of success where there is significant progress in protection… and make that together! They can provide the ideational support needed to coagulate a positive attitude towards biodiversity conservation and real sustainable development. The isolated existence of individuals or groups with concerns about researching various aspects of nature, protecting and managing areas without strengthening ties and creating a force capable of promoting the idea of biodiversity conservation, makes successes can only be isolated and temporary exceptions. ....which has dramatic long-term effects. There is a need for synergy of naturalists, ecologists… collaboration that can counteract the implementation of the so functional idea of “divide et impera”.
There is a need to shape a community with virtual expression, able to create attitudes, to promote events or approaches of interest for research on biodiversity, ecology and sustainability. But how can this be done? The major topics of our World must be debated in the spaces characteristic of current communication, in the virtual domain. Defining relevant current topics in the context of the moment, writing interesting and varied texts, taking photos, processing and selecting them to be made public, promoting… all are aspects with high chances of success if they are made by several capable people who take their own approaches and cooperate with those with whom they are compatible.
