So is mine :(
As I was going through a forum the other day, someone said that they delivered their camera for a service and when they got it back, the autofocus wasn't working anymore. After a second visit for a service, they were told that the back lid was damaged during the first delivery to the technician. So, I'm guessing that could be the case with your camera too.
Those imbeciles at the store I bought it from wanted me to deliver the whole kit (camera, lenses, charger and battery) in order to send it back to the official service in Athens. NO WAY!! I'd rather pay those 50 euros to buy a new battery and not risk damaging my camera!!
Yes, I'm still not able to send mine back to where I bought it as it was in another state and I do not want to send it via courier as I really do not know what they'd do with it.
It's better you play on the safe side and get your battery than risk sending all the camera accessories which may come back either damaged or with some of them missing.
Though I've called the store I bought it from, they say I should bring it over for their technician to take a look at it. Why do they want the whole package? Can't you just pop out the battery and send it to them? That is some weird request.
I hate technicians! Actually, I hate those technicians that work for the stores because they treat appliances like garbage, I had sent a laptop some time ago and they returned it scratched! I have come to trust only friends or my friends' friends to service my stuff...
Just find someone you can trust with your baby :)
They want the whole package because it is their shitty policy to check if the whole camera works right. That is stupid, why send them a working camera when we know that the problem is in the battery? I understand it if they want to check the charger, but NOT MY CAMERA!! (Ruth gets really sensitive with her tech-children)
Oh, I see now. The camera tech does not trust their customers to have the right technical knowledge of the device. I can understand their point as someone who has seen some crazy stories from tech support who have some funny, ignorant customers like the one below:
One day a user calls because her computer wouldn’t power on. OK, so I take the trip upstairs and sure enough no power to the CPU or monitor. I follow the power cords to a power strip, but I couldn’t see the power switch. A head of lettuce in a grocery bag had fallen from her desk onto the switch and turned it off. We still laugh about the ‘Death by Vegetable’ ticket… Source
