All Eyes on Zandvoort: Who Are the Favorites for the Dutch Grand Prix?

in #zandvoort2 days ago

Formula 1 is back from its summer break, and this weekend all eyes turn toward the Dutch coast. From August 21–23, Zandvoort becomes the center of the racing world as the Dutch Grand Prix returns for what is expected to be its final edition under the current agreement.

And yes, expect orange. Lots of orange.

The big question is obvious: who wins at Zandvoort in 2026?

Kimi Antonelli – the man to beat?

The biggest favorite must be Kimi Antonelli. The young Mercedes driver has been sensational in 2026 and arrives at Zandvoort leading the World Championship. Mercedes has adapted brilliantly to the new regulations, and Antonelli has repeatedly shown that his speed isn't just hype anymore.

Several bookmakers currently have Antonelli among the clear favorites for victory. Considering his form, that's hardly surprising.

His teammate George Russell also belongs high on the list. Mercedes has been the strongest overall package during the first half of the season, meaning Russell should absolutely be considered a potential winner.

Never underestimate Max at Zandvoort

Then there is Max Verstappen.

Maybe Red Bull isn't dominating Formula 1 like it did a few years ago, but this is Zandvoort. This is Max's territory, surrounded by tens of thousands of Dutch supporters who would probably attempt to push his car around the circuit themselves if necessary.

Verstappen finished second here in 2025, behind Oscar Piastri, and few drivers know how to handle the narrow, banked Zandvoort circuit better.

For practical information about the race, transportation, tickets, and staying nearby, check the Dutch Grand Prix guide at GuideAmsterdam.org.

What about Ferrari and McLaren?

Lewis Hamilton cannot be ignored either. Ferrari has already won races this season, while Hamilton entered the summer break second in the championship. If Ferrari gets the setup right, Hamilton could easily be fighting at the front.

McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are more difficult to predict. Piastri won here last year, proving that he certainly understands Zandvoort, but McLaren hasn't enjoyed the same consistency in 2026.

And weather might make everything even crazier. Rain is currently a possibility during the weekend, and Zandvoort in changing conditions can become beautifully unpredictable.

The party starts before Sunday's race as well. Friday has become a major part of the Dutch GP experience, combining Formula 1 action with entertainment and music. You can see what's planned on the official Super Friday Dutch Grand Prix page.

Antonelli may arrive as the favorite, but Verstappen winning the final Dutch Grand Prix in front of the Orange Army?

That would be quite a goodbye.
