A Special Day

in #celebrations11 days ago

Few days ago, was my Son's birthday on 13th Nov, he is 28 now and a grown-up man, but for me he is always going to be my little boy. How can he ever grow up for me, but that does not mean I treat him like a kid. As children age up, parenting styles also change, then they become more of friends then a child. Same is with me and him, we are now more like friends then Mother and Son, at the same time there are times when I do have to play the motherly role, that never goes off in any case.

Every year I make it a point to be in India during his birthday time, but this year I could not, since both of us have our commitments at our current locations. I was feeling sad about it, then he decided to come to Muscat and that made me very happy. He will come to Muscat on 25th and spend some time with me here. I am so super excited about that and looking forward to it.

When I look back at his growing up journey, just one thing I keep feeling that time has flown very quickly and I wish I had more of that time when he was a toddler and a teenager. Nevertheless it's not that I did not have quality time in his growing up. I had always made it a point to spend maximum time with him, whether it was about his education, extra curricular activities or anything, I was always involved in all of it, and that makes me feel all the more empty now. Taking part in his school projects, sports, birthday parties, taking him for extra curricular activities, teaching him, life was revolving all around this and then as he grows up and starts becoming independent, my involvement started getting lesser and lesser in his life.

And now he is at a stage where he is completely independent, but he is a very sensitive boy and understands my emotions and the strong bond we have, with all of that he makes it a point to spend regular time with me. I have no duties as such towards him now, and yet we make it a point to keep doing something or the other for each other. Every parent and child has this transitions, and that's the way of life.

This is from the last year's birthday which we celebrated together.
