The Delayed Reward of Teaching
Daybook March 25
Unlike bedside nursing, the rewards of education often appear months or years later through the success and growth of former students.
Bedside nursing often provides immediate feedback.
A patient improves.
A treatment works.
A patient expresses gratitude.
Education is different.
The results are not always visible right away.
Sometimes the reward arrives months later when a student passes the licensing exam.
Sometimes it arrives years later when a nurse begins graduate school.
Teaching requires patience.
But the impact often reaches far beyond what we initially see.
One Line for Nurses and Learners:
Teaching plants seeds that grow long after the lesson ends.
