Who Stays With the Family During a Code Blue?
Daybook April 1
Code blue and rapid response training should include one essential role: staying with and comforting the patient’s family during crisis.
In an emergency, nurses must help the patient quickly. But the family is also in pain. Someone should stay with the family, explain what is happening, and help them not feel abandoned. Good nursing is not only fast treatment. It is also protecting people from being left alone in fear.
One Line for Nurses and Learners:
A crisis team is more humane when someone is assigned not only to save the patient, but also to stay with the family.
