The Cabin in the Woods (film): A real treat for horror film fans
For anyone out there that has seen their fair share of horror flicks, particularly ones from the 80's that all seemed to have certain frustrating elements in them, The Cabin in the Woods is a brilliant homage to the art.

While not purely a comedy, The Cabin in the Woods certainly does have its comedic moments but they are more subtle than simply having one liners. The lengths they go to in order to slip certain "typical" aspects of horror flicks into this film are so frequent it makes a fan like myself think "what particular film are they referencing right now?"

It is quite obvious that they are constantly using a lot of The Evil Dead's overall theme in this one. The mix of people in the group, the location, the enthusiasm over a dump in the middle of nowhere, the fact that anyone would be excited to vacation here, all of this is just silly, and they know it.
The movie goes on to have silly elements such as a couple deciding to "get it on" in the middle of the scary woods, immediately investigating the cellar when the trap door opens on its own and someone says "It must have been the wind!" and of course later on once the S**T has already hit the fan and Chris Hemsworth says "let's split up, we can cover more ground!"

Everyone knows that when a heavy wooden cellar door opens on its own in a house you have never been in, you immediately investigate... Thor will protect you
The film is filled with gore and interesting baddies and I suppose the sci-fi story that is mixed in there is pretty cool as well, mostly this movie is great because it is making fun of many of the themes of classic horror films without going too over the top the way the "Scary Movie" franchise did.
If you are too young to remember films from the 80's and perhaps 90's that is ok, the humor will still work on you although perhaps for different reasons. I found this movie wildly entertaining and can't believe it took me this long to see it. I blame the fact that i lived in the jungle for a decade and rarely heard of any new films being released. It is also quite likely that this one would not have had mass appeal in Thailand and never actually made it here. I don't know.
Overall rating.....

I haven't watched this movie in a couple of years, but it's definitely a solid boner jam. I always enjoy when a movie deconstructs its genre down and has fun with it. The only thing I was bummed about is that we didn't get to see some more mer-man action, now that's a true alpha chad monster.
You psychotic deviant. You were secretly hoping for more mer-man-on-man action, and don't try to deny it. I can sense that sea-man-stiffy from a hundred yards away. Why the hell are you within 100 yards of me, anyway? Do the words "restraining order" mean nothing to you?! :)
Silence, barnacle boy. Don't make me break out the gamer girl bath water on your ass. Just enjoy the sodden moisture and maintain eye contact with me for at least the next 170 seconds.
Can you tell me how to get
how to get to
The Cabin in the Woods?

I've never seen this movie all the way through, but I totally love the premise. I think it is probably one of the most innovative for the genre in quite some time. Like you said, Scary Movie was a just a bit of a joke. I had heard they were working on a sequel, but I don't know whatever became of that.
It's odd to have a sequel to a film when the world ended after the first one but since when is Hollywood logical?

No! Thank you! The poster itself is already scary!! The name of the film is also off putting! Let me see sci-fi films instead! I can sit for three films in a roll!
I did watch the horror films from the 80's so I think I will enjoy this one
I used to watch horror movies from 80's and 90's, but I haven't watched any for few years. Do you recommend watching it?

One campy, not-serious comedic horror film that I recommend watching is Tucker and Dale vs Evil. It's not top tier but it does have some hilarious parts.
Here's the trailer for the film:
ive seen it. i liked it a lot :) "why do these kids keep committing suicide?"
