RE: Keto: Not Just Another Fad

in #food7 years ago

Fruit is like the natural candy of the food world.. little to no nutrients.. mostly sugar.. why would you tell someone who is a diabetic to eat something that's mostly made of sugar?

ps: our daily requirement for carbohydrates is zero.. otherwise each one of us would have died in our sleep. Read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gluconeogenesis

Though our body has indeed ways to generate glucose from other nutrients than simple or complex carbs, this takes more effort and energy, and leaves more waste materials than when you just would eat a piece of fruit or whole grains. Sure diabetics have to watch their fruit and carb intake, but that doesn't mean they can't eat fruits, especially the low GI fruits.... and fruits have little to no nutrients... not sure where you got that info from. Btw, Wikipedia is not a good scientific source to quote from... However, with this I am not saying the keto diet doesn't work. I have a friend who thrives on it but then my hubby manages MS with fruits and veggies... no meds whatsoever. There are many paths towards better health... but I disagree with your statement that fruits can't be part of a healthy diet. Have a great day.
