Entertainment Blog #368 | Weapons [2025]: What Happened at 2:17AM??
“Weapons” is a #mystery #horror #movie released in theaters on August 8, 2025. It’s written, directed, produced, and even co-scored by Zach Cregger—the guy behind Barbarian (2022). So expectations were already high. The movie features an ensemble cast that includes Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Toby Huss, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.
The plot is pretty freaky right from the start. One night at exactly 2:17 a.m., seventeen children from the same classroom mysteriously run out of their homes and vanish into thin air, all at once. Only one child, Alex Lilly, doesn’t disappear, and that’s where things start getting..... really weird.
Julia Garner plays Justine Gandy, the elementary school teacher whose entire class is gone, and she quickly becomes a suspect in what’s now a town-wide nightmare. Archer Graff, a dad desperate to find his missing son, ends up tangled in this mystery that pulls in police officers, parents, and even a creepy elderly relative named Gladys.
The story is told in six different chapters, each from a different character’s perspective, which gives the whole movie this almost puzzle-box feel where you gradually piece together what the hell happened. Along the way, you get suspense, eerie moments, and some scenes that’ll definitely make you jump, though some people even found parts unintentionally funny in theaters.
The film does very well at the box office and with critics, grossing around $270 million against a modest budget of $40 million, which is a crazy turnover. And it even earned award nominations and wins for Amy Madigan’s performance as the mysterious Gladys.
So what caused the kids to run off like that? What’s Gladys really doing in the background? And will Justine and Archer ever figure out the truth before it’s too late? It’s up to you to find out.
