Tech Blog #239 | Redmi Note 15 Pro+ : Not so Pro+ Though...

The Redmi Note 15 Pro+ is Redmi’s attempt to push the upper-midrange segment toward something that feels closer to a flagship. With a 200 MP camera, huge battery, rugged build and fast charging, it looks impressive on paper. But once you look into the details, there are a few trade-offs that make it a more balanced than outright premium choice.

Right away the display stands out. You get a 6.83-inch 1.5K CrystalRes AMOLED panel with 120 Hz refresh rate, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection and peak brightness pushing over 3200 nits. That means it’s bright and sharp enough for outdoor use and media consumption without feeling washed out. The curved edges give it a slightly more premium touch than flat mid-range screens too.

Under the hood, #Redmi chose the #Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset built on a 4 nm process. It’s paired with up to 24 GB of RAM through memory extension and ample storage options up to 512 GB. Everyday performance feels smooth and handles gaming, multitasking and media well for a phone in this class. The chipset isn’t a flagship-killer, but it’s competent and efficient for almost all typical tasks.

Cameras are the main talking point on the Redmi Note 15 Pro+. Xiaomi packs a new 200 MP main camera with OIS and a 8 MP ultrawide camera around back, with a 32 MP wide selfie camera up front. The 200 MP sensor captures a lot of detail, especially in daylight shots, and pixel-binning helps with noise control and dynamic range. The ultrawide does its job well for landscapes or group shots, but it’s not class-leading. Zoom performance relies mostly on the main sensor cropping since the dedicated telephoto isn’t available on the global model. It's really like having single camera in the back.

Battery life is one of the stronger points here. Xiaomi fits a 6500 mAh silicon-carbon battery with 100 W fast wired charging and 22.5 W reverse wired charging. That’s a big cell for this segment and should easily get you through a full day with heavy use. And it comes with 90W charger. Fast charging from near empty to full in roughly 40 minutes is great to see, and reverse charging adds convenience for powering accessories.

The phone also brings rugged durability with IP66 / IP68 / IP69 / IP69K dust and water resistance, reinforced glass and drop resistance certifications, which feels like a real step up compared to many competitors that skip this kind of build toughness.

On the software side, it runs Android 15 with HyperOS 2, bringing a mix of smooth daily use and extra Xiaomi-specific features like AI integration and extended battery life management. But #Android 16 is available now, right? There’s some regional variation in software experience, and some users online feel HyperOS still carries a bit of bloat compared to cleaner Android builds.

There are a few compromises though. The ultrawide camera isn’t particularly strong compared to rivals, and the lack of a dedicated telephoto means zoom relies on cropping from the main sensor. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 is competent but not a true flagship performer, and Xiaomi’s aggressive memory extension can be a mixed bag if not managed well.

So the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro+ brings a premium-level screen, a huge battery with very fast charging, rugged build quality and a detailed 200 MP camera system to the mid-range segment. It checks many boxes that matter in everyday use. But I strongly believe that Redmi hasn't provided a noticeable update for Redmi Note lineup and it has continued this year also.
