Reading Assessment for My Grade 1 Pupils
Good day all!
A sudden 7.8 magnitude hit in our land last September 30,2025. It really fit the song lyrics wakes me up when September ends! At the middle of 10 in the evening we were rock by an earthquake so the local government automatically suspends face to face classes then shift to modular Distance learning. The local engineering department was task to check every school building whatever the causes of the earthquake. Then came after some super typhoons, classes were still suspended and it takes more than a month to resume the classes.
When the face to face classes just resume on Nov. 26, I immediately conducted a reading assessment to my pupils. My goal is to diagnose whether or not there was a retention of the prior learning before the long face to face suspension. As a grade 1 Teacher, I am always been worried about the reading habit of my pupils since 6 years old is a primitive years of learning. Parents sometimes didn't mind helping teachers on following the reading habit of the pupil.
As expected, there were some pupils who downgraded their ability in reading. Some forgets the alphabet sounds that made them hard to retain the syllabic reading. I was a bit sad of the result. There are only 5 months left before the closing so I need to catch up time so they will be for to the next grade level.
After this class, I pause for a while then think. I am thinking a remediation plan and some other useful materials for their reading development. I am determined to help them but I don't know if the parents can do their part at home in reviewing lessons at home. Nevertheless, I will do my part as a teacher and if the pupils can't meet the expectations, maybe another plan to make.
Whatever my thoughts at work I will leave it inside the classroom. When I go home, another role to be done as a wife and a mother. I have to be balance in everything not to set aside my other part of my life.
This has been my diary game today. I am inviting @josepha @sabrip to write your diary, too.
