Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week134- Why Wait???
The question is as simple as Why wait? yet there is a deeper meaning that I apply to my life every day. It is a reminder to me that most of the things we postpone are the things that are of utmost importance.
We wait to speak nice things, we wait to forgive, we wait to begin something significant and even to become better people. The fact is, though, that waiting is frequently an outcome of fear or doubt or uncertainty, not because the time is not right.
Why wait? reminds me in my everyday life to do things that are really important. To illustrate, I do not delay reaching out to someone anymore, when I think about it. Even a mere message or a call may mean everything to a person and postponing it may mean the loss of the moment.
I have also used this mentality to improve myself. I do not say that I will begin tomorrow, but I attempt to do even the smallest step today. It might not be ideal, but it is better than nothing.
I also had an experience where I had to get something really important and I realized that I was very late and regretted it. I had a project idea which I was very much interested in. I continued to strategize and contemplate how to get it right before I began. Weeks became days, months became weeks. I continued to say to myself, I had to get more time, more knowledge and confidence.
However, eventually, I never got started when I was supposed to. I had then later witnessed another person do something much like that and do it successfully. It was a bitter experience as I knew that I had missed a chance just because I was too long. Through such an experience, I realized that we do not need to be perfect to start. The most important thing is to begin, no matter how small and flawed the steps could be.
Conversely, there came a time when I did not decide to wait and it was positive. I recall an instance when somebody was in need of assistance. I did not have all I would have liked to present, but I chose to do it now rather than think about it.
I contributed what I was able to. The individual thanked me later and I felt touched. It taught me that sometimes, the people need not be perfect but there. Had I waited until I felt I was quite fit, I could have lost the opportunity to assist.
One thing I would no longer wait to do is to pursue my dreams boldly, in case I were not afraid or doubtful of it. Most often, I am scared to fail or of what people might think of me, which keeps me back. I am waiting and waiting to get that perfect time, though I secretly know that we may never get such a time.
Were I to lose all feeling of fear, I should venture more, venture in new ways, venture out of my comfort-zone, and venture fearlessly. I would also concentrate more on development as opposed to not making any mistakes.
The fact is that, life is fast and opportunities are not always eternal. Sometimes it seems safe to wait and it mostly proves to be regrettable.
Moving forward, though we might be uncertain, opens the gate to development, education and unforeseen blessings. I am also getting to know that courage does not mean having no fear, but the choice to do it anyway.
To sum it up, Why wait? is not a mere question but an invitation to live deliberately. It helps me remember to get going, to enjoy the here and now and to stop putting off the things that are really important to me.
Be it in expressing love, assisting others, or chasing my dreams, I am learning to do what I can today and not tomorrow. Since ultimately, the little actions we are taking presently can define a better and meaningful future.
