Hey my beautiful Steemit family! @elsa-queen is back again. I have returned with nothing but positivity, smiles and good vibes for you all besties. Today my heart feels incredibly light and joyful. I am very happy to share this beautiful moment with each one of you.

I sincerely thank my lovely maโ€™am @ninapenda for organizing this wonderful Steemit challenge. It means a lot to me to be a part of this Nigerians community. I hope my words bring warmth, happiness and positive energy to all my besties.

Identify one everyday problem in your community or country and explain some steps in solving them.

Everyday problem in Lahore: Poor sanitation and waste management.

Lahore which is considered as the heart and cultural center of Pakistan is facing a serious day to day problem today. That is lack of sanitation and poor waste management. Piles of garbage, boiling drains and plastic bags are commonplace on roadsides in many parts of the city. This problem not only affects the beauty of the city but has also become a serious threat to health. Dirt causes dengue, malaria and other diseases to spread while drains become stagnant during the rainy season and daily life is adversely affected.

Some important steps are necessary to solve this problem.

  • First the government and related institutions should improve the garbage collection system. They ensure cleanliness on a daily basis. They promote recycling projects.
  • Second creating public awareness is crucial. Through schools, mosques and the media people should be taught how to segregate waste. How to avoid littering on the streets.
  • Third citizens have a responsibility to keep their homes, streets and neighborhoods clean and participate in cleanliness drives. Finally stricter laws and penalties should be enforced to deter negligent offenders.

If the citizens of Lahore and the government work together with honesty and discipline. Then this problem can be solved to a great extent. Then Lahore can become a more and more cleaner, healthier and better city.

"Clean Lahore is not only the responsibility of the government but of all of us because a clean city is the hallmark of a civilized nation."

Why do you think this problem still exists despite many people noticing it?

People get used to the same behavior for years. So they don't try to change even if they see the problem. This problem exists so far even though many people feel it because there is a lack of serious and sustained action to address the problem. Most people think that sanitation and waste management are only the responsibility of the government or related institutions. So they do not take personal responsibility. This thinking exacerbates the problem.
Apart from this lack of public awareness is also an important reason. The lack of humility and responsibility is also the reason. Many people do not know the negative effects of improper waste disposal on health, environment and future generations. On the other hand weak systems and poor planning also perpetuate the problem. The sanitation agencies are under resourced, ineffective monitoring and sometimes corrupt, leaving problems unsolved.
Another major reason is non implementation of the law. Although laws are in place. They are not strictly enforced. Due to which people throw garbage on roads, streets and public places without any fear. Also people have been accustomed to the same careless behavior for years. So they are not willing to change their habits even when they see the problem.
Until there is a change in public thinking, government seriousness, effective systems and collective responsibility. The problem will persist.

In your opinion, what is the most misunderstood part of this problem?

I think the most misunderstood aspect of this issue is that most people think of it as just a sanitation issue. When in fact it is a mindset, attitude and collective responsibility issue. Generally people think that if the garbage is picked up or the road is cleaned, the problem is solved. They ignore why the dirt is created again.

Many people do not understand that dumping waste not only spoils the beauty of the city. It also seriously harms health, environment and social order. The clogged drains lead to stagnant water, spread of disease and redistribute government resources on sanitation that could have been spent on other development work.

Another misconception is that the solution to this problem lies only in the hands of the government. The reality is that no system can succeed if citizens do not take responsibility, dispose of waste properly and change their habits. This issue needs to be understood as a long term behavioral change. This is not just a temporary fix. This is the aspect that is most often neglected.

If you could change one mindset related to this issue, what would it be?

If I could change one mindset related to this issue it would be "It's not my responsibility, it's the government's job"
This thinking is the root of the problem. Most people think that cleaning roads, streets, and public spaces is the sole responsibility of government agencies. So they feel no harm in littering, clogging drains or being careless themselves. Although the truth is that the government can make the system. But only the people can make it successful.

If this mindset changes and people start understanding that cleanliness is a collective responsibility. Then many problems will automatically reduce. When everyone disposes of their share of waste, reduces plastic use and cares for the environment. The city can stay clean. A small responsibility of an individual can have a big positive impact on the whole society.
When "it's the government's job" is replaced by "it's our responsibility," that change can become the strongest foundation for solving this problem. When the each individual considers himself a part of the problem only then will the problem be solved.

Friends, this is my participation. I hope you appreciate it. I look forward to reading your valuable feedback.

Both leaders and the public share a responsibility for environmental well-being. Currently, critical narratives based on well-thought-out thinking cannot be fully utilized by anyone unless they are involved in political profit-and-loss schemes. This means that every policy must be balanced with the benefits of groups, parties, and even those in power.

Indirectly, bureaucratic elites still force the public to "pay" for their ideas and decisions for the well-being of the community, whether it be public facilities or even waste management facilities.

On the other hand, a country's population growth can be an asset or a liability; this assessment depends on the quality of its human resources, including each individual's awareness and responsibility for the environment, as you explained, where small individual responsibilities can have a major positive impact on the environment and society at large.

Good luck with this exciting challenge, my friend.
