Choices! What will it be? #56

In most cases, we are so much familiar with a word that we don't even know the in-depth knowledge about that particular word. It has happens to me before. There are instances whereby I thought I knew about something or something rather but I actually discovered that I didn't actually know about it not until I have made some proper research about it.

Over this past few days, I have really been having a whole lot of busy schedules up and down to attend to and so it has not given me the room for me to actually attend to participating in the contest by @patjewell but today I will be dropping my entry and I belong you will enjoy it. Today I will be going with the choice of Plastic and I will be writing some outlines about the word plastic so stay tune.

Introduction To Plastic.

For many of us, when we heard the word plastic, what actually comes to our mind ranges from either bottles, bucket and many more. That can be a perfect example of plastic but wait a minute, that is not actually limited to it. In fact many of us also didn't even know how plastics comes to existence or what methodology is used to form plastic. Well I was also in that shoe before I did some wonderful research about it which I will be sharing with you today.Let me start by defining what a plastic is.

Plastic according to my simple definition are actually synthetic materials actually formed from polymers. That is just the simple definition I will be giving it. For many of us that does not understand what synthetic materials means. We can actually say they are materials that are human-made which are created through the chemical processes, instead of those that naturally occur.

I will also like to talk about the history of Plastic in this section of introduction to the world of plastic. As far as I am concerned, Plastics can actually be traced back to the 19th century where the discovery was frost made. Parkesine has been called as the first and foremost Plastic that is being made and was named after the creator which was named Alexander Parkes in 1856. Around the 1907 period, Bakelite was actually invented by Leo Baekeland and named the first complete and perfect synthetic plastic after being made to pass through some experiments and tests.

As many of us are quite familiar with the uses of plastic as of diverse ranges, I will be talking Now in this particular section about some of the importance of plastic in our society. Some we are actually familiar with and some we might not be familiar with. Stay tune.

- Packaging.

I will like to say that one of the major importance of plastic in our society is packaging. Plastic has really gone a long way in helping us in the packaging work of some goods, appliances, tools and even much more like foods, snacks and many more as much as you can remember. Due to the fact that plastic is known for its durability attributes and not only that but also light weight compared to other synthetic materials, it does the job of packaging very well and helps to extend the life span of the goods, foods or tools used in packaging.

- Construction.

In our society, we can't deny the fact that plastic is used for the construction work effectively. In fact it has really gone a long way in helping us to construction work like the pipes majority of us are familiar with. Not only that in the construction process, plastics has helped in the construction of roofing materials, windows and even doors. And one of the major reasons like I mentioned which helped plastic to be considered is due to the fact that it has high durability attributes and has been light weighted also.

- Transportation

Take a minute and look around. Any of our means of transportation either by road, air or water, the medium of transportation is made of plastic. Take a look of cars, airplanes, boat, ships and many more. They are made of plastics due to the fact that it has high durability and provide this structural balance that other materials might not be able to provide. So plastic also go a long way in helping us in the means of transportation. Take a minute to imagine if cars, airplanes or boats are made with irons or metals.

- Goods

Now the last Importance I will like to mention and discuss before I moved to the other section is the fact that plastic has helped to make or create a whole lot of consumers goods ranging from toys, utensils, appliances, clothing, and even furniture. It is actually hard for you to look into a house and not find an appliances, tools or materials that is not made with plastic. That is to show the relevance and importance of plastic in our household and even society at large.

Types of Plastic

This post will not actually be complete without me not mentioning the few types of plastic we have. Yes for many of us, we might actually be surprised because we might have think plastic are plastic. As much as plastic is plastic, we still have some classifications of plastic which I would like to make mention of.

I will actually be mentioning just four of them today in this post but they are not limited to that as we have much more than the 4 that I will be listing. If you want more of them, you can do more research on the internet to get the rest of the list.

- Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET).

Quite shocking about the name right? That was the same way I was shocked to discover the name of one of the types of Plastic the first time I found out. Due to the nature of this type of plastic, it is mostly used for consumers goods like the beverage bottles, for the food packaging work and also for the synthetic fibers. One of the major attributes that can be attest to this particular type of plastic is the fact that it is resistant to moisture as compared to other types of plastic thereby aiding and choosing it to be a better ideal and deal for the food and liquid package.

- High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE).

As the name implies, this will have given you a glimpse of what it is used for. As it is actually known widely for it's high strength and density ratio, this is used more in the aspect of strong and rigid materials, goods and materials. It is also used for the pipes we popularly come across around our surrounding. Most of the time, it can be used also for water tanks and even for plastic lumber.

- Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE)

As we all know, if there is an advantage for something, there will certainly be a disadvantage for something. If there can be a high density Polyethylene, that means there will be a low density Polyethylene. Well when it comes to LDPE, it is actually very flexible and not only that but also it has this high resistance to moisture, making it suitable for packaging goods and materials like the plastic bags.

- Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)

The last one I will really like to talk about before actually rounding up my post today will certainly be the Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). It is one of my favourite types of plastic due to its vast usage and even been commonly found in our household and society at large. PVC like I earlier said is so versatile and can be used in various applications, including pipes, window frames, flooring, and packaging. Not actually only that, it is also durable, weather-resistant, and can be rigid or flexible depending on its formulation.

I will have love to talk about other topics surrounding plastic majorly the pollution aspect today but I will like to stop here for today. Probably in my next post, I will be talking about it in details much more.
